Are you an insured business and do you guarantee your work?

We have full public liability insurance, our Gold and Silver removals service have full insurance, our Bronze service has In transit insurance with the option of Full insurance and our Budget service has no insurance although we still take the same time and effort to protect your belongings as we do with our three other service offerings.

How did you decide to get into your line of work?

Accepted Answer

I got into this line of work by accident. I had a mobile fruit and veg business that went bust during the start of the Global Financial Crisis. I had a small truck that I used to go to market to pick up our fresh produce and my wife was (that's right, I was nagged! lol), asking me to get rid of it or do something with it. I did not know what to do with myself let alone my truck so I started hiring myself and the truck out on a daily basis. About 70% of what I was doing was helping people move house and they would tell me all of the nightmare stories of the removalists they had used before and show me the proof of all the damage they had done to their cherished belongings. I quickly saw that there was a need for a truly fixed price service with insurance and transparency with good old fashioned customer service. And so began Advantage Fixed Price Removals in August of 2009.

Do you have a favourite customer story you would like to share?

We moved a customer from Canberra to Melbourne earlier this year. This particular customer was a lovely lady but she had severely understated what she had to be moved. It was a genuine mistake on her behalf but posed a problem as we were not able to fit everything in the truck due to this. If we had know all the information we would have used our larger tuck. We explained the situation to her, moved everything that would not be able to fit into a storage facility in Canberra for her and then loaded the rest of her furniture onto our truck and delivered it in Melbourne the next day. The following week when we were in Canberra we picked up the rest of her belongings from Storage and delivered them to her back in Melbourne for the exact same price we would have charged plus the storage as we would have quoted with the correct list. Because we did not make a fuss, get stressed out or start making noises about how much extra we would charge she was able to stay relaxed and found the whole experience to be the easiest move she had ever had. She wrote us and thanked us for restoring her faith in furniture removalists as the experiences that she had had up until then where truly awful. We now have a nice letter of recommendation from her and a happy customer who is reffering her friends and family on to us.

What do you like most about your job?

I love talking with new people every day and the satisfaction in knowing that we have turned what is usually a stressful time into a relaxed and easy experience with no hassles. I love the fact that customers straight away know that we are different from everyone else and then rave about our service to their friends and families. I love that we get to move the same people again as they are happy with the service we provide.

What questions should a customer ask to hire the right service professional?

Is your price fixed, what does and does not your insurance cover, can you please attach the inventory list I have provided you to your quote so that we can both see that the price you have quoted is fixed on that list.

What questions do customers commonly ask and how would you answer them?

Customers mostly ask us if we can move certain items like pianos, pool tables, spa's, antiques etc.. and our answer is almost always yes. The only things we will not do is move items in and out of buildings through balconies and upstairs windows as this is just too dangerous.

We are the most reliable and trustworthy because we all enjoy what we do, are customer service focused, do exactly what we say we are going to do, when we say we will do it. We believe in doing the right thing because it is the right thing to do!

Why should a customer hire you over another service provider?

Accepted Answer

We ask you all of the relevant questions before quoting your move and we fix the price based on that information so that you know how much it is going to cost you, what is included and what to expect. We do not want any surprises for you or for us on the day. We do not quote on a per hour price as this just opens up the ability for a removalist to drag their feet and charge you as much as they like. We fix the price and our service.

What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?

We need to know the full address you are moving from and to so that we can look them up on Google maps, we need to know what you have to be moved listed and as accurate as possible, we need to know your building type, if you have stairs, a lift, driveway access for the truck and if there are any other issues that could slow us down or add to the difficulty level and if you have any specific requirements and what date you are looking at.

How can a customer save money before you start the work? Please give 3 tips

If you want to save money you can choose to take our budget service were you and your friends or family do all the labour and we supply the truck and driver who will do all of the wrapping, stacking, strapping and protecting in the truck. You can take this offer on local and interstate moves. You can also choose to do all the packing of the boxes and dismantling of your own furniture yourself. Most importantly, make sure that you give us all of the information so that there are no surprises.

We do not do discounts and offers as we believe in the absolute quality, service and fairness in what we do and we believe in being paid for doing it. If your boss at work asked you for a discount when it came time to pay you, do you think you would be keen to give him one knowing how hard you work for your pay?

What makes your pricing competitive?

Accepted Answer

Because we gather all of the information from you and fix our quote, you know exactly what you are paying. We attach all of this information to your quote to ensure that there is no chance of any misunderstanding on either yours or our behalf and we make sure that everything is in writing. This way there is no adding to the price on the day because it takes longer, because you did not tell us this that or the other thing as it is all there in black and white. We do not try and compete on price as we know that the cheapest quotes you get will end up being more on the day than what our quotes are for the same service level.

How do you normally charge for your service?

We gather all of the information from you regarding the access for our truck to both properties, the building type i.e.. apartment, stairs or lift, double storey, single storey, townhouse, unit or flat, any other access issues or difficult circumstances that will affect the time and safety of the move and then the list of what you have to be moved and give you 4 fixed price quotes with varying service levels and inclusions for you to choose from. We take a 25% deposit to book and the balance is paid on the day of your move. We accept Cash, VISA and MASTERCARD.

Is there a particular aspect of your trade or industry that you specialise in?

We specialise in Interstate Moves between SA, VIC and ACT as well as locally within Victoria. We will soon be expanding Further. We move upright Pianos and pool tables a swell. We also enjoy a growing business within the office moving industry too.

What experience, skills, qualifications or training do you have to make you the right person for the job?

I have personally trained and developed all of the removalists working for me and have intentionally never hired an experienced furniture removalist as they have bad habits and practices. I use personally and have taught my staff to use common sense, best practices and professional materials to always make sure the customers belongings are wrapped, strapped and secured so that nothing can happen to them. I have full insurance available and include in 3 out of 4 of my services available and have complete public liability insurance cover.
