Yes I am a member of the Marriage Celebrant Association of WA, (inc) and as such I am covered by a professional insurance.

How did you decide to get into your line of work?

Accepted Answer

After many years in the health and community services industry, I decided it was the right time for me to do something I had always wanted to do - work with people to assist them to celebrate life's special events in a way that brings them happiness, and fantastic memories. Those life events can be a wedding, a birth of a child, a special anniversary, the commitment of two people to each other, or the celebration of the life of a loved one when they have passed away.

Do you have a favourite customer story you would like to share?

While I always maintain my client's confidentiality,   I do have a favourite memory of a particular couple who married in their late 80's who had been together for decades. They loved each other so much but their families were opposed to their marriage even at that stage of their lives. But they persevered and wanted to finally be husband and wife, and so it was my greatest honour to be able to pronounce them husband and wife shortly before the husband passed away........

What do you like most about your job?

Meeting and working with lots of new couples and being a small part of their special day! I love meeting their family and friends. I love to be able to assist the bride and grooms to put their dreams into reality on ther wedding day.

What questions should a customer ask to hire the right service professional?

What experience and qualifications they have. Why they became a celebrant. What they can provide to the couple. What ideas the celebrant can offer. The celebrant's style of service and personality, and whether they will be flexible and support the couple's ideas for their ceremony.

What questions do customers commonly ask and how would you answer them?

The first question many clients ask is "how much do you charge?". My answer is usually the one they are seeking, but I always add that price alone cannot find you the celebrant that is right for you......it is important to find a celebrant that you feel comfortable with, and one who has the experience to provide you with the service that meets your needs, style, and choices. A cheap price may not give you the best service for your wedding day.... and that also goes for a very expensive fee too.

What makes you the most reliable and trustworthy person for the job?

I am an honest, reliable and trustworthy person who has worked in the health and community services industries for the  majority of my working life. I have always held positions of trust and confidentiality, dealing with clients private information, funding, and their personal well being, for which I have always felt privileged, respectful, and honoured.

Why should a customer hire you over another service provider?

I believe that I provide a quality service to my clients and I try to give 110% ! I also believe that you shouldn't choose your celebrant on price alone, but on your ability to feel comfortable with your celebrant and to be able to build rapport with them as you work together to plan your ceremony.

What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?

The couple should have made a decision about the type of wedding they would like, e.g. registry style or a full wedding. They should also have a general date in mind. They should have an idea generally where they want the wedding to take place although I can always give them some suggestions for a location.  The couple should have the documents that are needed to meet the legal requirements for marriage in Australia.

How can a customer save money before you start the work? Please give 3 tips

1. Check around for fees and costs involved in your wedding, although price alone is not always recommended when choosing your celebrant. You need to meet them and determine if they are right for you. 2. A lot of things can be done by the couple themselves to cut costs. 3. Choosing a cheaper month, venue, or supplier.

Are there any special offers you would like to offer to Oneflare customers?

Winter and weekday weddings usually have a discounted fee, as do weddings for people who are on pensions. Those couples who want to have a "registry office" style ceremony in my office also have a discounted fee.

What makes your pricing competitive?

Accepted Answer

As I meet and work with other celebrants I know that their fees are comparable to mine, in fact many charge a higher fee, especially the "celebrity" celebrants who are usually associated with the media. Their fees can be much higher.

How do you normally charge for your service?

Currently, I charge an average of $400-$450 for a full wedding service, however I do give discounts to those couples wanting a very short " registry-style" service, or for weekday ceremonies or those who are on concessions.

Good communication, and the recognition that all people and all couples are individuals who want to receive a service that is personalised and individual to their tastes and styles. Everyone is different!

What experience, skills, qualifications or training do you have to make you the right person for the job?

I have been a celebrant  for over 7 years and my background in health and community services has given me the skills to work and communicate effectively with people, design and plan an event, and recognise and maintain confidentiality and ethical practice. I can get along with people of all backgrounds and walks of life, and I have helped and assisted people of all ages. And I love meeting couples and helping them design their wedding ceremonies!
