Are you an insured business and do you guarantee your work?

Accepted Answer

I guarantee my work but feels it  best not to suffer problems in the first place as a re shoot is timely for all involved. "Problem avoidance is achieved because I will only provide services if I have fully understood my clients brief".

How did you decide to get into your line of work?

My fascination/ love of photography started as a 7 year old. It's a passion that has stayed with me always and so following a career change it was a natural choice given my interaction with people and eye for a great shot.

Do you have a favourite customer story you would like to share?

Accepted Answer

A make up artist wanted images for her portfolio. She organised 4 models and had me go and shoot them. I shot using a tethered technique which allows the client to see the images as they are taken as they pop up on a large screen and from the first image, she was cheering and clapping as prior to that she had hired a photographer who turned up with non ro equipment, no backdrops, studio lights (only used the on camera flash) or reflectors and who had to Photoshop into the images, all the lighting and beauty features that I was able to capture in camera. The previous photographer had also applied Photoshop treatments which rendered the models unrecognisable. I have used some of these images in my portfolio here.

What do you like most about your job?

Mine  doesn't feel like a job. I love that client/photographer feeling when the images are produced and everyone is happy, Best of all is being told by my last two models (who both detested having their photo taken), that mine were the best they had ever seen, What a buzz! In most cases I have felt a part of the team when showcasing a business or a partner when producing portraits for overseas job applications etc. My clients are my friends and welcome back anytime.

What questions should a customer ask to hire the right service professional?

Do you use professional lenses and a full frame professional camera? (There's a big difference in image quality and how large you can produce images but you may not  know it if you don't know about cameras). Can I see examples of your work? You should always check this out first and if not displayed on a website ask for samples to be emailed to you. What do I get for my money? I will always provide you with exactly what you get.....to the letter. It's written on my quotation and if it doesn't look right, call me to chat.

What questions do customers commonly ask and how would you answer them?

Do you provide all images from the shoot? Yes, if paid for and only those which pass my quality checks Do you offer printing? Yes, paper for framing or canvas framed and ready to hang. Do you process the images you provide? Always, and don't deal with someone who doesn't, ALL digital images require processing just as film did.

What makes you the most reliable and trustworthy person for the job?

I'm old school. I turn up when promised and keep my word. I like people providing me with services to do the same. I don't break agreements and will commit important details in writing if necessary to ensure your confidence.

I share full pre-shoot consultation with my clients in advance so that we are both on the same page meaning the shots my clients receive are the ones they hoped for.

What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?

Location -  Public place, Home or studio (studio booking is required and will cost extra) How many images are required and in what media? Album, Book, prints, Digital Details of the images to be created. Style (formal, reportage) group size, Time constraints, dates and times. planned use of images.

How can a customer save money before you start the work? Please give 3 tips

1. Prepare/clean the location and product prior to the shoot. I will of course address any oversights during the shoot, but do charge at my normal rates for cleaning when required. background clutter can be cleared in retouching but takes longer than real clearing up and is costly to do.  2. Think about the outcome you hope to achieve. (Style/mood of image, media (digital, prints, photoshow DVD or photobooks) and communicate this to me before the shoot. You may need to prepare more than you think you do to save shooting time on the day.  3. Stick to the plan and our agreed brief. Costs can more than double if you suddenly achieve inspiration during the shoot and ask for changes/additions etc

A newly turned professional after some 30 years of enthusiast photography Barry's rates are low in comparison to the quality of photography received by clients. All photography undertaken using pro equipment too.

How do you normally charge for your service?

Accepted Answer

I will charge a small deposit to secure my services initially. Once the images are selected by you, the balance will be charged prior to release of the images. Images can be delivered by mail either digitally or prints or via immediate downloaded using dropbox.

Portraits of all types -  love the intimacy and fun of a portrait shoot, nothing better to get to know people.  Food Photography - Can be really technical and as detailed as any genre. I love the detail - and smells.
