Frequently Asked Questions
Why should a customer hire you over another service provider?
Our differentiator is the close and intimate relationship between our client and us. We are the servant to our client, who can talk to us un-restrictively about their dreams in housing design.
What experience, skills, qualifications or training do you have to make you the right person for the job?
The principle of Cubic Design Pty Ltd has over 37 years experience in architectural design and over 10 years designing homes on the Peninsula. He is a member of BDAV and as a registered building practitioner he is well known in the home designer industry.
How do you normally charge for your service?
On average we charge approximately 2% to 3% of the total building costs for design work. Charges for energy rating, soil report and feature surveys etc. are not included. Planning and Building permit charges are invoiced separately.
How did you decide to get into your line of work?
Working in the UK and Spain in the early 2000’s allowed me an insight into European architecture.
Architecture in Europe is driven by thousands of years of civilization, providing an astounding wealth of cultural treasures and styles. This exposure developed my working style, cultivating an open and unassuming approach. I listen to the issues, understand the context and provide proactive guidance through the process of architecture and design.
What do you like most about your job?
I am fascinated in the connection and transparency of space, along with the idea that each space is a threshold and communicator of what is past and what follows.
I am passionate about the proportion and the “reason d’être” of buildings.
I believe there is nothing more pleasurable than working on a project where the client relationship develops quickly into one of implicit understanding and trust. So much time is spent in meetings, discussions and design sessions, which lively debate and humor in equal measure, makes for a highly engaging and enjoyable experience.
Are you an insured business and do you guarantee your work?
Cubic Design Pty Ltd is ensured against Public Liability, a registered Building Practitioner and an active member of BDAV. Our work is guarantied and holds a design certificate.
Is there a particular aspect of your trade or industry that you specialise in?
My approach to the projects I run is consistent, featuring respect, trust and vigorous discussion. Ideas are continually tested to extract the very best from the project team, keeping them inspired and maintaining a strong sense of ownership in what we are creating. Successfully dealing with an array of Councils, keeping up to date with all regulations and requirements to ensure a smooth and efficient process of planning and building permits, is critical. One of the pioneers in introducing European style apartments with underground car parking in the Mornington Peninsula, along with alternative efficient solutions for office buildings are examples of local achievements. I’m renown for a successful rate of planning applications granted, along with strong and sound knowledge of practical construction principles.
What makes you the most reliable and trustworthy person for the job?
I am committed to exceeding expectations and creating better environments through leading, innovative, team-based design solutions.
There is something very satisfying in fulfilling my client’s needs, seeing a building successfully completed and making a positive contribution to its urban or rural context. Being able to continue contributing to the Cubic Design story is a pleasure and provides me with great satisfaction.
What makes your pricing competitive?
My experience in the building design industry and my knowledge in residential and commercial construction makes my fees competitive and keeps your project affordable
