Interview with Professional Wedding Photographer
The world’s press will descend on Windsor Castle on Saturday 19 May to witness the greatly anticipated wedding of Prince Harry to American actress Meghan Markle. The royal couple have summoned the services of renowned fashion photographer Alexi Lubomirski to take the official photos of the wedding day.
If you’re currently planning your own big day and the royal wedding has got you thinking about hiring a professional wedding photographer then look no further. We speak to Sydney based wedding photographer Brendan of Love is Light to find out about the current themes in wedding photography, how long in advance couple’s should be looking to hire their chosen photographer and what his favourite wedding tradition to capture on camera is.
Brendan has been a professional photographer for the last twenty years, with extensive experience shooting weddings fashion, creative portraiture and advertising campaigns. Brendan photographed his first wedding ten years ago and currently runs his own photography business Love is Light.
Hi Brendan, how would you best describe your photography style?
My style is very natural and candid. I’m passionate about creating authentic and natural photographs that couples will treasure forever. I think about what the pictures will mean to you in twenty and thirty years time. I want couples to be able to remember how they felt in that moment.
What do you enjoy the most about being a wedding photographer?
I love meeting new people and hearing their stories. I’m always traveling to new places and discovering inspiring wedding locations. It’s energising and rewarding to create something really special for couples that they will keep close forever.
What are the current wedding photography trends that couples are following?
Couples are seeking photographers that can capture natural and authentic moments. Clients are very aware of different wedding looks and styles, and how they can use the medium to express who they are.
Which is your favourite wedding tradition to capture on camera?
It’s exciting to be a wedding photographer in a city as diverse and multicultural as Sydney. Every tradition has something special to capture. Indian weddings are full of action and vibrant colour. A church wedding is an elaborate affair. Asian traditions have a special emphasis on family ties and beautiful moments can be captured in these ceremonies. Witnessing couples exchange vows is always very moving.
Which are the popular themes to follow in wedding photography?
Couples are seeking ways to bring a personal touch to their wedding planning and design. I see a lot of creativity and works of art. It’s a chance for couples to express their love and appreciation for their friends and family.
How long in advance should brides be looking to hire a photographer for their wedding?
At least a year in advance of their wedding. Once the venue has been booked I advise couples to book their photographer soon after to avoid disappointment.
What should brides look out for when hiring their photographer?
