I have been a Registered Building Practitioner number DP-AD323, with public liability insurance and have done 218 projects to date. If we satisfactorily draw out your lifestyle choices and match them with an affordable design, I will do my best to ensure you are happy long term with this design.

I have always found building design creative when working with imaginative clients. I love hand drafting, but offer a CAD product if requested..

Do you have a favourite customer story you would like to share?

Accepted Answer

A small family wanted a large complex extension of their weatherboard house in Clifton Hill. They were very keen to be hands on with the process and gathering and filtering the required information to get the design they wanted. They were very good spatially at making models so I suggested they make a scaled version of their extension. Over a couple of weeks we developed a sturdy balsa wood frame of all the main internal timber and steel members they wanted. We worked also with my engineer to get the desired materials and arrangements they were after. It made for a lot of fun and cut down on having to multiple scenarios first.  This was before CAD was around.

Can you competently manage the other building professions such as building surveyors, engineers, land surveyors, planners, local council staff, energy raters, etc on my behalf?  Can you inform me of any other building type requirements in a timely manner?

Q: Can I get a quote over the phone please?  A: I usually need to be on site with you so I can find out information on the spot with you, or may need to seek further information from councils, utilities, etc, so that I can provide the most accurate information to you to avoid surprises.

Why should a customer hire you over another service provider?

Sole proprietor who works with trusted professionals- Engineers, Planners, Surveyors, Energy raters, Councils. I can provide all or some of the selected services run by myself or other professionals. Costs of running the business are low so I will not need to add large business maintenance or corporate costs.

What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?

A site visit and an initial discussion to help Map out your family lifestyle, including what aspects are the three most important to you, which will affect our design. I need to understand the full scope of your design checked against regulatory requirements. I usually provide estimates with very regular updates of what we do really know. I prefer known unknowns to unknown unknowns!

How can a customer save money before you start the work? Please give 3 tips

Provide a Section 32 which includes a certified copy of title, have any design, sketches, photos, articles, any previous plans ordered form council well before the first meeting. Have a realistic idea about your budget. Be prepared to seriously consider your longer term lifestyle choices to influence your design.

I will provide a free cost estimate of my charges after initial meeting. The first meeting of one hour is complimentary. I will safely archive all the building documents for 10 years.

Sole proprietor, self starter, low overheads, swift worker. I usually do not do more than two jobs at a time so that I am readily available and flexible for clients.

I usually charge $50 per hour for any services, but all costing models will be considered. I insist on regular task and cost updates to ensure there are no surprises.

I love to work very closely with my clients to ensure they get precisely what they seek in design and budget aspects. I thrive and encourage a team approach to completing all tasks- I love engagement!

Forty years design and drafting experience from new house, unit development, renovation or extensions. I work seamlessly with trusted partners and professionals and usually manage their services with each project on the clients behalf. Clients are very welcome to do some of part of any project requirements.
