How did you decide to get into your line of work?

I always had a leaning towards architecture and creating as a child. Not many things could hold my attention for too long, but once I had begun the drafting TAFE course I decided I wanted to go all the way as I absolutely loved learning everything about the job. Love and passion keep me going.

What do you like most about your job?

I love being able to meet peoples needs, and I get a great joy from seeing them as emotionally invested in their buildings as I get in them. I pour my heart and soul into what I do and I absolutely love every part of it.

1) What are quotes based on? A $50 / hour rate- then services and time required to complete  2) Why choose me? I truly listen. I read between the lines and always give beyond expectations.  3) What have you done? Alterations, extensions, new houses. shop fit outs

While I'm obviously running a business, I don't look at every client as a $ sign, nor do I ever attempt to be anything more than I am. You will quickly learn I am a truly honest, open, and empathetic person who cares more about giving what's right than receiving financial reward.

Why should a customer hire you over another service provider?

My capacity to *really* listen to clients, delivering them something they've always wanted, yet something beyond their expectations. I also have design and problem solving skills learnt through my Master of Architecture degree, but I charge closer to a draftsman rates as I'm gaining experience.

What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?

It helps to know: 1) Do you have a draft plan ? 2) Have you approached the Council? 3) Do you have consultants (builders, engineers, tradies, etc) already?  This information is helpful but not necessary, so no need to stress if you haven't.

How can a customer save money before you start the work? Please give 3 tips

1) Finding out from the Council if the project they're trying to do is even possible. 2) A draft design with a working understanding of the R-Codes that the client accept responsibility for. 3) Doing the work as an owner builder and taking more responsibility for the building phase.

What makes your pricing competitive?

I have a degree in Master of Architecture, and although I am inexperienced, I am learning incredibly fast because I am doing it all for myself. As such, my rates are more aligned with a simple draftsman's rate, but for a level of service that goes well beyond.

How do you normally charge for your service?

I charge in progress payments, with the regularity dependent on the size of the job. The more time consuming the job, the more regular the payments, but most jobs I charge in the stages required for the Council.

Is there a particular aspect of your trade or industry that you specialise in?

Producing quality, well thought out designs. I have strength with residential projects in particular. While I can design like an architect, I'm also a fully capable draftsman and design in a practical yet beautiful manner.
