Are you an insured business and do you guarantee your work?

Accepted Answer

I carry both Public Liability and Worker Compensation Insurances. I guarantee all my work but will not guarantee work where other trades access and modify my work unless I am there to supervise.

How did you decide to get into your line of work?

It was purely by accident really. I was working for a friend of mine doing ducting installations...on roofs in fact. he ran out of work and another friend of mine needed some guys to do a huge roofing job in Lithgow. It took two weeks to do that job and it almost killed me. I loved it. I always loved a challenge. I liked the technical aspect of the job too. That is why I went on to do my Cert III and Cert IV in two different disciplines.

Do you have a favourite customer story you would like to share?

My customers vary widely. I have worked all over Sydney. My clients always call me back to do more work when needed and I am always getting calls from existing clients asking if I can recommend another tradesman for other works they intend to do. I enjoy my relationships with my clients and there are none who would not have me over for a cup of tea.

What do you like most about your job?

I love meeting new people and i love the view from the roof. It is a physically demanding job but it sure beats sitting at a desk all day. Each job has its own challenges. I meet each one anew and treat it as its own, on its own merits.

What questions should a customer ask to hire the right service professional?

There is no definite answer to this. In short a tradesman should be courteous and willing to listen to all of your questions. One should have a lot of patience when working in the building industry as there any many new terms to understand. I expect clients to ask lots of questions. I don't always have the answer but I will find out for them.

Do I guarantee my work. I always guarantee my work where possible. This can also depend on the request of the client. I would rather tell someone I can't assist them or give them what they want if i think it will not solve the problem. I want to fix issues for people not create them.

Accepted Answer

I spend time with my clients finding out their individual needs and always quoting to fix the problem. I can also help with roof design in the early stages if it is new project. Where inherent design problems exist there are times when an alternative solution may be preferable to just doing the same thing over and over again.

What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?

Condition of the roof and materials used. A budget guideline is a help but not mandatory. Access and safety equipment can vary the cost greatly. Scaffolding can double the cost of a job.

Be safe- A small amount of research on the Dept of Fair Trading website will give you the information you need about your potential contractor/tradesman.  Be smart- Youtube has a lot of valuable data about roofing procedures and Australian manufacturers publish all installation guides on their respective websites  Be prepared- Be willing to discuss different solutions to your roofing issues. Take the time to get to know your contractor/tradesman. You will find that most guys love what they do. If you respect this you will get the best work out of him.

I can give you a fair assessment of your roof condition above and beyond your building inspection. This si often a point that is overlooked when you are choosing a house to buy. It can be a costly error to choose to buy a home with inherent flaws. This is a complimentary service to Oneflare customers. Roof reports are generally charged at $150.00 plus GST.

What makes your pricing competitive?

My pricing is based on finding a solution to the problem. In this way it may not be the cheapest quote in the short term but the job is done to a standard and given a fair warranty. I find this the fairest approach to doing business.

I quote to fix the problem. I am a professional tradesman and have may friends who are professional in their own fields in the building industry

Metal and tile roofing as well as complicated architectural design features and flashings.

I have a Cert III in Roof Plumbing and a Cert IV in Building and Construction. I am also a Certified Enrolled Nurse (Not industry specific but experience with people all the same)
