Australian Scaffolds has a $20,000,000 public liability policy, and all our work is guaranteed. In over 20 years of working in the construction industry we have never had a single insurance claim against us.

How did you decide to get into your line of work?

Providing scaffolding services was a natural progression from bricklaying. Offering scaffolding was about providing our customers with an extra service they required without the extra hassle of engaging a new contractor.

Do you have a favourite customer story you would like to share?

A short version of my favourite customer story is back when we first started, had to deliver scaffold on a Saturday morning to a customer that had ordered the previous day.  I arrived on time as agreed, and my customer calls me a legend. Now In all the years working as a bricklaying business, and had laid millions of bricks, and no one ever had called me that. I knew this was the right business to be in to be able to help people.

What do you like most about your job?

Being part of the construction industry, it is very satisfying knowing that we contribute to part of life's most basic requirements - safety & housing. I take great satisfaction knowing that workers that use our scaffolding are working safer and more productively.  When building scaffolds with no consideration for the end-user, which is what most scaffold companies do, it can cause problems. The tradesman using the scaffolding may become extremely frustrated that they are unable to complete their work in standard time. From a tradesman point of view, if the job takes longer because of poorly built scaffolding, they want to be compensated.  That's why Australian Scaffolds builds scaffolds to best suit the end-user, not what's best for the scaffolder.   From small homeowner jobs to railways stations, bridges, commercial and industrial projects, helping a city grow and stay safe is very satisfying.

What questions should a customer ask to hire the right service professional?

The very first question should be - do they have testimonials? Taking the time to learn more about a business before engaging may save thousands of dollars.  On the first meeting with a service provider, you may consider how the service providers representative responds. Do they present well?  Are they on time? Are they knowledgable? Do they suggest savings, etc.? And finally, ask to see a copy of workers compensation and public liability insurance. Having up to date insurances is vital. If there is no insurance, the person engaging the contractor may be liable in the event of an accident.

What questions do customers commonly ask and how would you answer them?

In my experience, most customers are primarily concerned about time, then secondly cost. How long will it take? Can you be here on this date? When will you be finished? Etc.  The reason that time is most important is that time delays cost a lot. Even one day late for one trade could be a week late for the next.   When managing even a small project, time is critical to the successful completion of that project — communicating start and finish times, any potential delays or time savings etc. Excellent communication is vital.

What makes you the most reliable and trustworthy person for the job? I would say it's our relentless focus on our customers. We never stop thinking of how we can better serve the needs of our customer requirements. Of course, we understand that reliability and trust is essential to building great relationships.   Customers are the lifeblood of any business, and we work harder than most in keeping our customers happy. In fact, we encourage our customers to rate us on a score of 1 to 5 and leave comments. We want to know where we can improve. That feedback is published live on our website for the world to see.

With over 20 years of scaffolding experience, we see oppurtunites to save our customers time and money where others simply can not. We use the most advanced scaffold system in the world (made in Germany), with exceptionally well trained employees.

To provide an accurate quotation, there are 4 critical information components we need. 1. What is the intended use of the scaffold. 2. The height the user needs to access. 3. The length of the platform required. 4. How long is the scaffold required.

How can a customer save money before you start the work? Please give 3 tips

We are always happy to advise our customers on the best way to save money, and it's something we do regularly. In some circumstances, we even recommend that a customer uses an entirely different solution that we don't offer. Not that I like to give jobs away, but we always put the customer's needs before ours.  A long term hire can add to the cost of a project. If we feel that it is in the best interest of our customer, we would advise that it is cheaper to purchase the scaffolding.

What makes your pricing competitive?

What makes your pricing competitive? What makes our pricing competitive is value. Sometimes we have quoted jobs, and we have not been the cheapest and other times we have. It depends on the situation. However, we are surprised when someone else is more competitive than us.   We recently completed a large project beside one of Sydney's major arterial roads with four identical stages that required scaffolding. The road had to be shut during scaffolding construction to avoid any potential accidents. Australian Scaffolds completed stage one in three nights.  For the second stage, the builder engaged another scaffolding contractor hoping to reduce costs. The second scaffolding contractor completed the same scaffold in ten nights. The additional seven nights cost the builder a lot of money in traffic control and RMS charges, personnel costs etc. Needless to say that Australian Scaffolds were employed to complete the remaining two stages. With the builder remarking, "never again would they make the same mistake".

How do you normally charge for your service?

Australian Scaffolds provides written quotations prepared by an experienced estimator. Our quotes allow for all costs with no hidden charges. Any ongoing hire charges are usually paid by credit card on a week to week basis. Our quote covers installation, hire, dismantle, freight and other costs such as engineering, council fees etc.   We like to be upfront and include all possible expenses. Many contractors will quote less to win the job, then will ask for more money during the job claiming they did not know there would be additional costs. I find this tactic dishonest and unacceptable.

Australian Scaffolds specialises in:  - Civil Infrastructure - Rail Infrastructure - Public Infrastructure - Industry Maintenance - Remedial Construction - Residential Construction  Our customers include homeowners, builders and governments. From simple scaffolds to reach a two storey window to suspended platforms hanging from 30 storeys high.  We do not provide large high-rise commercial scaffolding.

What experience, skills, qualifications or training do you have to make you the right person for the job?

Our employees undertake a 3 year on the job traineeship, including 1 year at TAFE, gaining licenses in basic, intermediate and advanced scaffolding certificates.
