Are you an insured business and do you guarantee your work?

Accepted Answer

We will, at our own discretion, revisit a case where a software solution has not continued to work.  Excluded from this would be cases where a better solution was recommended, but turned down by the client.  Hardware sold will carry manufacturers warranty. Used/refurbished have a shorter warranty.

I like the technical aspect - its like a puzzle that changes every time you open the box, and I like a challenge.  Plus, I really like people.  I haven't met all kinds yet.  I am hoping you can help me with that.  If I can make you happy, it makes my day.

What questions should a customer ask to hire the right service professional?

Accepted Answer

Be very specific as to the needs and symptoms of the problem, and ask the pro how he would solve the problem.  You may not understand every word, but he should make sense to you.  Ask him for a general estimate on time and materials needed.  (No one can accurately quote while blind.)

What questions do customers commonly ask and how would you answer them?

Why is my computer so slow?  Depends.  You may have a virus.  You may have added a lot of software demands but your hardware is just not enough to handle it.  Consider a hardware upgrade.  Your hard drive may be full.  We can move some data off to give you the room your computer needs to operate efficiently.    My hard drive crashed.  Can I recover my documents, pictures, music and other data?  Probably. Ordinary hard drives fail "by degrees", allowing us to use other means to access the data on the platters.  If the logic board on the drive has failed, we can send off the drive to be taken apart and read in what is called a "clean room", a dust free environment where the paltters can be read with new read heads.  Costs vary from super cheap and easy to a fair bit more for difficult and scientific, so you need to know quickly what you are faced with so you can decide if it is worth it.    My internet is slow,  It used to be fast.  What went wrong?  Your hardware may be failing.  Or your browser might have some unfriendlies added to it.  Viruses can interfere with internet traffic too.  Sometimes your phone line (ADSL) has gone bad.   You need someone who can cut through the confusion fast and either fix it or call the people who are responsible and make them take responsibility.

Honest - We think people deserve the truth about their problem and the potential expense.  We will look for a solution that serves you, not us best.   Experienced - over 25 years in the field with dozens of certifications on brands ranging from Apple to Zenith including Dell, Lenovo, HP/Compaq, Lexmark, Canon and more.  A+ Certified Computer technician.  Experienced with printers, routers, servers and more.   Fair - people deserve to have all the facts possible at the beginning of the job, and be told quickly of any suprises that will affect their choices and costings.  When appropriate, we will cap your cost at a certain price rather than work at an hourly rate with the clock ticking while you worry.

Years of experience  CompTIA A+, Multiple vendor and device certifications including Dell, Lenovo, Apple, HP/Compaq, Toshiba, Sony and more.  Computers, servers, printers, networking and internet.  Excperienced in software deployment and management, security and virus prevention and removal.

What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?

You will need to provide details of your problem, any error messages, model numbers or descriptions of equpment involved and troubleshooting steps taken to date.  A quote will be not be guaranteed if the problem differs greatly from your description or if other equpment or parts have also failed, but are not discovered until the current problem is resolved.

How can a customer save money before you start the work? Please give 3 tips

If you can, back up your data.  If you have a computer that requires you to make a Recovery Disk set, ensure that it is created and available.  Record accurately any error messages, beeps, codes or symptoms prior to the technicians arrival.  Since time is money, the less we have to do the more you save!!!

You can find cheaper service providers.  But if they charge half as much and take twice as long, did you really gain from the lowball price?  In addition, repeat calls are bad for everyone.  No one always gets it all done in one go, but we try our best to make it happen that way.

How do you normally charge for your service?

We custom tailor pricing for jobs.  In some cases an hourly rate serves best, other cases call for a negotiated flat fee so the customer has a sense that the price can only go so high.  If we find the problem description does not truly match what we find on site, we will advise before going forward.

We solve problems. We use diagnostic tools and software, and basic logic to find the causes of difficulties so whether it is hardware gone bad or software acting up or a combination of problems, we love to solve them.

Certified warranty repairs on many equipment types and brands, classroom training in Dell servers, backup units and printers, Hughes Satellite earth station repairs, Canon photocopier/printer maintenance (low end).  In addition, many certifications for specifice servers, desktops, laptops, networks.
