Are you an insured business and do you guarantee your work?

As an Australian Computer Society member I have professional indemnity insurance to the tune of $10000 but so far I have never had the need to claim on this insurance! We aim to never claim anyway.

How did you decide to get into your line of work?

I have been involved with the IT industry since its inception and have experience on a range of business sizes. I have experience in Australia and New Zealand but I also did some work in other countries. I do have a passion for IT and have corporate level IT systems running as a hobby at home.

Do you have a favourite customer story you would like to share?

Dental cabinets use sophisticated IT systems, including AutoCAD stations, in conjunction with 3D scanning cameras and micro milling machines (for porcelain crown and bridges). In addition the practices use Exchange mail servers and SQL client-server line of business applications.

The challenges (and overcoming the challenges)! I also like that implicitly it requires me to be up to date with the tech.

Has my business grown to the point where a few computers don't cut it anymore? Am I after someone to design and implement a new IT solution or should I expand the existing one? If these are the questions you ask yourself then I am the person able to help you.  Am I after a computer repair person to fix my computer? If yes we are not the right people to contact.

How can I figure out what I need? We can figure out what you need but we will have to understand your business, your goals and your existing systems and, mostly, what are you trying to achieve?

I have never lost a customer, I am still servicing customers acquired in 2008. I always try to complete the work in budget and in time.

To be honest there are not too many consultants offering their services direct to the small businesses like I do, as free lancers we can offer accessible prices for advice and work.

Try to understand the business to accurately identify business needs. As a business analyst that is my primary duty for starters... IT infrastructure design is a complex task and the more is known, the more suitable the implementation.

1 Try to put on paper what you actually need sorted out 2 Prioritize the list in Must Have, Nice to Have and Wouldn't Hurt items 3 Try to have in mind a sum that your business can afford

What makes your pricing competitive?

Unlike large consultancies I do not have significant overheads and, also, I do not charge GST. However I can provide the same level of expertise with consultants in the large IT consultancies.

How do you normally charge for your service?

I charge per hour but we can arrange charge per job at delivery. If hardware is involved (for example a server) I  arrange specifications, quotes and seller contact but the customer will purchase the hardware as we do not charge GST (at least not at this stage). This way the customer also retains the warranty over the equipment.

Is there a particular aspect of your trade or industry that you specialise in?

Medical and dental cabinets are (surprisingly) high IT consumers and we like working with them but we can work with any business as soon as we understand what IT needs and goals are set.

What experience, skills, qualifications or training do you have to make you the right person for the job?

Involved in IT since the 90s I have university degrees in IT, Economics and Science, complemented by multiple Microsoft certifications (MCSE, MCSE + Security, MCSA + Messaging, MCPS, MCNPS, MCTS MS Small Business Server Certification - a transcript is available on request). Extensive IT experience with larger companies allows me to offer a wealth of knowledge.
