How did you decide to get into your line of work?

Accepted Answer

I have watched people who never took the time out to get to know the people involved produce ceremonies that were cold, incorrect and lacked unique qualities. My husband Bruce was my inspiration for weddings, he and I had a truly beautiful love story. I wanted others to have their wedding days about them not a pile of words that didn't relate them and their love story. In regard to funerals, my parents farewell was cold, clinical and even names were wrong, a funeral is a celebration of life, it should be treasured and demonstrated with love and details accurately told. I got into this business because I care about people.

Do you have a favourite customer story you would like to share?

There are so many but I think my favourite has to be my sons wedding. His wife asked me to conduct the ceremony and I was honoured. This was the first time all my family and friends would be present to witness me conducting a wedding. I was the first one to see the bride walk down the aisle, to hear my sons gasp at how beautiful she looked. I was there the only one privy to their own personal vows until that day. My son was so nervous, my husband had a front row seat as he was ill. I had prime position when too incredible people declared their love for each other.  Another ceremony I conducted was a memorial for my husbands brother. I flew to Queensland where I conducted the ceremony, with a touch of the nerves. A funny aspect was the widow wanted me to add a bit for the candles to be lit by her and myself as brothers in life and now in death. I had three minutes to write something but I did it, as it came from my heart, it was easy. This ceremony gave closure to a life that had been vibrant and loving.

What do you like most about your job?

I love positive feedback when a ceremony has been conducted, to the wishes of the client. To hear the words, it was much more than I could have imagined is music to my ears.

What makes you the most reliable and trustworthy person for the job?

I have never let anyone down regarding my service. Last year my husband passed away, but I informed a couple of what had occurred and we both agreed they would obtain another celebrant. I gave them a list of sites and people they could check out. My trustworthiness is in my love of my job and in my passion for it to be a special day for them.

Why should a customer hire you over another service provider?

As a civil celebrant I can conduct, weddings, renewal of vows, namings, memorials, unity ceremonies and funerals. My ceremonies are unique to the client, conducted with professionalisim and respect. The ceremony is about you or your love one. We work together to produce a memorable experience. I am a people person, compassionate, understanding with a great sense of humour when required.

What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?

Accepted Answer

Date of ceremony. Venue of ceremony. All relevant papers required. Colour schemes. I need to know if there is a need for a PA system, music that will be played and what type of ceremony they wish to have.

How can a customer save money before you start the work? Please give 3 tips

Accepted Answer

Ensure you have all you correct paperwork regarding, birth certificates, divorce papers, and if your papers need to be translated to have to performed through NAATI as this is a government ran organisation.  Ensure you have the deposit and can pay the remaining cost, this means you will keep me as a celebrant and won't have to pay someone else and losing your deposit

How do you normally charge for your service?

I have a standard fee for all services but extras may include excess travel to and from a venue. My prices are very competitive with others, however I don't believe in charge a small fortune.

Is there a particular aspect of your trade or industry that you specialise in?

I am a civil celebrant, meaning I conduct a large variety of ceremonies that are not religious based. I conduct weddings, funerals, memorials, namings, unity ceremonies and much more.

What experience, skills, qualifications or training do you have to make you the right person for the job?

I have been a celebrant for eight years and have conducted a variety of ceremonies for a variety of reasons. I am continuously looking for inspiration and experience. This includes ongoing professional development seminars I attend annually. Our training includes laws regarding, immigration, refugees,correct wording of a legal document. Our training is ongoing, keeping up with the newest laws. My training also includes researching different ceremonies including sand, lock,candle and binding.
