How did you decide to get into your line of work?

Coming from the Corporate world it was always our intention to at some point sell up and buy a cat boarding business as we transitioned into semi retirement. We were very lucky to find Hillview Farm which enables us to enjoy our passion for cats every day.

Do you have a favourite customer story you would like to share?

We received a call whist having a coffee in Colac. Person had left their cat in the care of a relative, The cat escaped and was taken to local pound by neighbour . Microchip details  resulted in customer being contacted in Perth. We got the call and picked up the cat. We now have customer for life.

What do you like most about your job?

AS cat lovers, we adore all of our guests and work hard to ensure they have a pleasant stay with us. Cat owners know their pets and regardless of how well you get on with the owner, if their cat is unhappy they won't come back. We don't have that problem.

That's simple. Are you registered with the appropriate authority? (Yes, we are) Do you live on site? (yes, we do) Are you available for inspection (Yes, we are) Are you are registered business? (Yes, we are) Do you have all the necessary insurances? (Yes, we do)

For most people it is availability followed by price. We like to try and have a conversation with the prospective customer to also discuss their cat so we can also understand their individual circumstances.

Our track record speaks for itself. We have numerous unsolicited testimonials from satisfied owners and this is reflected in our extremely high repeat rate. We were also recently awarded the "Excellence is Small Business Award 2015" at the Colac Otway Business Awards.

Hillview Farm Cattery is an award winning boutique cattery situated at the foot of the Otway Ranges offering a quiet and peaceful retreat for your precious pet. We are council approved and registered, we live on site, and we offer a level of care and attention to detail to suit the fussiest guest.

What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?

We need to know the check-in and check-out dates, the name and age of the guest, vaccination details, food preferences and medication details.

Are there any special offers you would like to offer to Oneflare customers?

Depending on the time of the year, we often offer One Flare customers a complimentary upgrade to a larger suite at no extra charge. Please note however that this is dependant on availability and the length of the booking.

What makes your pricing competitive?

We monitor the pricing of similar (same for same) facilities to ensure our pricing is always competitive. As a general rule, we usually come in marginally under those of our competitors.

How do you normally charge for your service?

Accepted Answer

Just like the best hotels, we only charge for the nights booked and payment is required at the end of our guest's stay. During peak periods we may charge a non-refundable deposit to retain your reservation. We DO NOT apply a higher tariff in peak, and we have no minimum stay periods.

Is there a particular aspect of your trade or industry that you specialise in?

We both hold formal tertiary qualifications in business, and we both have professional backgrounds in the banking and SME sector. This formal background coupled with our passion for this business was the driving motivation for us the make the "tree change". We are here by choice.

What experience, skills, qualifications or training do you have to make you the right person for the job?

The major prerequisite for running a boarding facility is to have a passion for our guests. There is no formal qualification required other than an ability to relate to owners and their pets. Having said that, we meet and  exceed all mandated legislative and Shire requirements.
