How can a customer save money before you start the work? Please give 3 tips
In photography time is money. Three tips to save time are; 1. Corporate head shots. Have a running sheet with times and names. That way the day will run smoothly. 2. For family groups and family portraits make sure that your hair and make up is done before the photographer gets there. Let children rest and make sure everyone is fed and watered, you need energy for good images. Most of the time we charge by the hour and have more jobs waiting so lets make the most of the time we have. 2. Brides, there are so many tips to give, the main one is to have fun no matter what happens. Brides can save money by hiring the photographer by the hour just as long as the photographer is professional and cleans their own work in post production.
What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?
The typical things we need to know before a quote are; 1.The start and finish time the photographer is required. Will they need postproduction done on the images. 2. The amount of people or products to be included in the shoot. 3. The location. 4. When is the shoot date.
Are you an insured business and do you guarantee your work?
Homepix Photography is an insured business with public liability insurance. We guarantee our work. We survive off word of mouth. Our customers come back to us because of our professional approach and on time delivery.
What makes you the most reliable and trustworthy person for the job?
Anthony Burns the principle photographer, is a member of AIPP and adheres to their strict code of conduct. He has been working in the industry for over 20 years. and knows how important it is to show up on time and be ready to work.
What questions do customers commonly ask and how would you answer them?
Customers ask all sorts of questions because we take all sorts of photos. Q. Head shots, can I come to the studio? A. Yes we are located in Five Dock. Q, How much notice do you need? A. Head shots only need one or two days. Events and Weddings Q. How long does it take to get the images. A. For Corporate events 24 hrs. For weddings 2 - 4 weeks for digital images on a USB. If you are having an album made up it will take eight weeks as we use Albums Australia or Momento Pro.
What questions should a customer ask to hire the right service professional?
The questions you should ask the potential photographer are; 1. Are you a member of a professional body, like The Australian Institute of Professional Photographers or Nikon Professional Services. Their members are trained and follow a code of ethics. 2. Do you use post production (digitally enhancing) on ALL (not just some) of your work to ensure the client will receive only top quality work. 3. Do you supply all images in hi and low resolution on disc without a watermark so they are ready to print and use on the internet.
What do you like most about your job?
I have always loved photography and working behind a camera, creating everlasting images. I also like the fact that every day is different. I meet so many interesting people whether it's corporate of families in general.
Do you have a favourite customer story you would like to share?
Over the years you tend to become a family photographer. It starts with a wedding, then children and then mile stones. Last year a customer rang me at their wits end. Their computer had fried itself and they lost all of their photos. The woman was in tears as she pleaded with me " did I have a copy" Yes, of course, portraits, pregnancy etc. We have hundreds of stories but this one shows how important pro photos are. Get them done for histories sake, "who do you think you are".
How did you decide to get into your line of work?
In the 1980's there was only film cameras and it was costly to take photos. A lot of families had professional portraits done and corporate clients had no choice. The look that got me was the look on peoples faces when they saw my photos. It still happens.
What experience, skills, qualifications or training do you have to make you the right person for the job?
To be a professional photographer you need to be trained. The Australian Institute Of Professional Photographers ( AIPP) conducts training for all of their photographers on an on going basis. So over the years you keep learning about the new products and techniques from the best in the business.
Is there a particular aspect of your trade or industry that you specialise in?
Homepix Photography is a broad based photography service. Portraits / Head shots / Corporate functions Anthony Burns Wedding Photography Engagements and Weddings
How do you normally charge for your service?
To know what to charge you first need a clear brief. Portraits are by the person or group. Events are by the hour. Weddings are by the hour.
What makes your pricing competitive?
Not everyone is trying to find the cheapest price. Many customers come to us after a bad experience with a cheap alternative. They not only have wasted their money but also their time as they have to go through the whole process again. The smart money is with experience. Get the job done right the first time. If you are paying a photographer under $100 per hour be wary. Just because someone has a good camera does not mean they have the experience.
Why should a customer hire you over another service provider?
Experience and passion, short and simple. We find the best angle of every room we know how to work a room at an event. To be able to talk to all kinds of people, judges, accountants, shop assistants etc and make them feel special. Why choose Homepix Photography? Let our images in our gallery speak for us.
