How does acupuncture work?  There is not an all-encompassing explanation of how acupuncture works.  There are scientifically verified explanations regarding its effectiveness in pain management and the mechanisms behind acupuncture’s effectiveness in the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders but how acupuncture can treat such conditions as skin disorders, digestive disorders and immune system dysfunction is a grey area.  The following is a simple yet plausible analogy. The skin is the border to your country. And when the skin gets broken, the body sends out troops. First, a blood clotting factor gets released, so you don't bleed to death. Then there is a knitting factor that gets released to begin knitting the skin back together. Some white blood cells get sent to the area, to make sure that infection doesn't spread into the body. There is an increase in the production of cells to form new skin, we call it a scab or scar tissue. An analgesic gets released to reduce pain and stop you from going into shock.  And after a day you have a little thin scab. And after a couple of days it is thicker, and then after a week or so it goes away, and we have nice normal tissue again. This happens automatically. Sometimes we look down and there is a scab and we don't even remember doing anything to cause it.  So the body has done it without our thinking about it. This indicates that we have a system inside of us that is always there taking care of us. All Acupuncturists are doing is tapping into that system, and marshalling it into action for you. We break the skin, but in some specific sites, that then marshals that system into action for you. That is acupuncture in a nutshell.

I prefer  a holistic approach and  treat the whole person, not just the presenting problem but not at the expense  of losing  focus on the actual condition that prompted  the person to seek my services.  Although acupuncture is the primary modality used, nutritional supplementation, therapeutic stretching and strengthening and massage are often built into a treatment.  I have found this combination treatment style to be the most effective and enjoyable for clients.  I freely give any knowledge I may have about your health concerns and offer strategies you can apply to prevent them in the future and have no hesitation in referring you to another practitioner of another modality if I deem it to be more suitable to solving your problem.  Individualized treatment plans. Many acupuncturists use similar protocols on all of their patients. I tailor a treatment plan specifically to your needs.  East meets West. In addition to traditional Chinese medical diagnostics I use some Naturopathic style testing to hone your diagnosis.  All of our herbal formulas and supplements meet TGA standards and are batch tested to assure safety and potency.  Your comfort is a top priority, you are treated in a spacious private room.
