If customers choose to obtain a couple of quotes, you need to make sure that you are comparing apples with apples. For example if a panel shop chose to repair a panel rather than replace you would want to know why and if the repair work comes with a guarantee. If parts are involved you would want to ask the question have you quoted using brand new genuine, second hand or non genuine parts.
What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?
We need to physically view the vehicle to provide you with an accurate quote. We obtain the VIN from each vehicle to ensure we are quoting for the correct parts relating to that model, ensure we follow the correct repair procedure for that particular model. We also identify what type of paint is used whether it be a solid, metallic, pearl, 3 layer pearl etc... An assessment is then made on what is required, what areas need to be dismantled to gain access to the damaged area, if the damage is repairable or the panel/part requires replacing,what areas requiring painting, if the accident damage requires any auto electrical work, mechanical work, windscreen removal etc...
