Are you an insured business and do you guarantee your work?

Jigsaw Dogs is an insured business.  Regarding guarantees, it's not like a plumbing job!  There are basic skills that can be taught quickly and minor behavior issues that can be resolved in one session. Once a trainer has completed a training session, it’s up to the owner to continue to practice.

How did you decide to get into your line of work?

Dogs have always been a part of and a passion in my life, from childhood to vet nursing as a teen (and watching Lassie reruns!).  Fascination with all animals but particularly dogs and their behaviour and what it means for us humans in so many capacities made me desire to understand and learn more.

Do you have a favourite customer story you would like to share?

Scotty was a rescue dog that had dog to dog aggression and human aggression, particularly men and he was under threat of euthanasia.  After assessment and some intense training, Scotty now greets everyone and every dog as a friend.

What do you like most about your job?

I love seeing the relationship between dog and owner change from one of frustration to one where the owner starts to have an understanding of who their dog really is and why certain behaviours happen and we can change them.

What happens when my dog does something wrong? Will the training stress my dog?   What happens when my dog does something right?

Why do dogs jump?  Jumping is a natural greeting behaviour of dogs.  When family groups of dogs meet there is much mouth licking, a behaviour that in dog and wolf families elicites regurgitation for puppies.  Our mouths are high up away from the floor so they want to jump up towards our mouths.

I have extensive experience within the dog training industry.  I continue to strive for best practice and humane methodology while working with both dogs and their people.

Whatever your challenge, we will work with your and your dog in a sensitive and encouraging manner and we will teach you how to carry on the work when we have gone.  Dog training is all about understanding and communication.

I need to know age and breed of dogs.  What the particular behavioural or training issue is and what are the goals of the owners with regard to these issues.

How can a customer save money before you start the work? Please give 3 tips

Look at management - if your dog is eating your shoes, pop them away behind closed doors. If your dog won't come back in the dog park, put them on a long line. If your dog is scared of storms and tries to escape your home or yard, consult with a vet for appropriate medication.

Quality of service offered through knowledge and experience and personal customer service.  My experience and training techniques are extensive and not based on a one size fits all with all training individually tailored for the owner and dog's own particular issues.

How do you normally charge for your service?

Services are $80 per hour.  Initial consults are usually 1.5 to 2 hours with follow up consults usually 1 hour.

Is there a particular aspect of your trade or industry that you specialise in?

I work with rescue dogs, fear aggressive dogs, reactive dogs, puppies and pet dogs that need some manners. Dogs that need to learn to walk on lead without pulling and how to come back when called.  All dogs!

What experience, skills, qualifications or training do you have to make you the right person for the job?

I am a qualified Cert III holder in Dog Behaviour & Training from NDTF.  I regularly undertake professional development courses delivered by internationally recognised experts and educators and am currently studying psychology.  I have years of hands on experience as well.
