Yes, insurance coverage. I guarantee to be on time well dressed with professional camera equipment all prepared set and ready to go, actually 2 cameras and multiple lenses. Being a member of the AIPP i have access to numerous photographers to call as back up if ever needed. I can't guarantee the weather.

How did you decide to get into your line of work?

Just fell in love with photography, back in the film days i started off mainly with wildlife landscapes and portraits then it was a natural progression to wedding photography as this has everything, definitely beautiful landscapes awesome locations great portraits and the occasional animal.

I enjoy the wedding speeches sometimes very funny and sometimes moving, always different.  A couple i met in Canberra they have since moved to Melbourne, now have a baby we keep in contact as i continue to do baby photos and second baby is on the way, nice to have a lasting relationship.

Definitely the variety of people i meet, the locations and venues, the photo opportunities, the constantly changing light conditions and locations, its never boring every wedding is so different i always come away with a new idea for the next wedding.

Do you enjoy your work. may sound silly but i believe if you enjoy your job its no effort to do what you do instead of just turning up for $$. Are you confident? Do you have insurance? Do you have reliable equipment and back ups. Are you considerate of Bride and Grooms friends guest and family.

How many photos do i take. lot's of photos at least a thousand, reason being i prefer to have extras as someone may blink or look away many distractions at a wedding. There is no time to stop and check each photo things move way to fast. I edit the photos when i get home.

Never been late or missed a wedding or photography event. My camera equipment is always cleaned an checked prior to an event. Make sure i have all contact details, have a list and plan of the day, locations and photography ideas, i plan for the unexpected.

Keep a eye on guest numbers although its nice to have everyone, cost can escalate quickly. Delegate a professional to take care of details so you can enjoy the day and avoid hidden cost.

As a small business most of the daily requirements are done by me no costly outsourcing, keeping in touch with today's market and regularly checking all aspects of running a business to stay fair in the market.

How do you normally charge for your service?

Most professional photographers like myself meticulously sit down with pen and paper and work out an hourly rate taken into consideration general advertising cost, insurances, Membership fees, investing and updating in camera equipment, office administration, CPD continuing professional development regularly attending photography workshops business and educational events.  I am not the cheapest but do put a lot of work into my photography always giving 100%.  Images are processed to achieve the best results often spending hours editing.   You may get someone for half the price but they are most likely in the early stages of there career and do not understand the value of photography or how to work out the real hourly cost or prepare a business plan, or have invested in high end equipment costing thousands, let alone experience or developed a photography style. I am sure If they sat down and worked out the real cost they would soon realise its actually costing money to photograph a job to cheap.   Photography is a trade like many other services that have a minimum hourly rate charged just to break even as mentioned above.

My skills are in organisation and communication, done with a pleasing manner as i find time is important to capture quality photos during the day, there is no time to waste.

With a number of successful Weddings and Photography events covered over the years without any bad reviews or negative feed back i feel i must be doing the right thing, even though i don't have a degree in photography my attitude towards my work is of very high standards.
