What questions should a customer ask to hire the right service professional?

Compare the work of each photographer and ask yourself which do you prefer?  Does the photographer have a comprehensive portfolio of work?  Do they produce images that are varied and unique? Do they capture the relationships between the subjects?  Do they have an artistic flare?   Does the photographer have formal photography qualifications?   Or have they only studied a short course or diploma or have no formal training at all?  Do they have experience?  How much experience?  Is the photographer a member of a professional association of photographers?  What format does the photographer deliver the images in? Are they RAW files or are they digitally enhanced?

What makes you the most reliable and trustworthy person for the job?

All photographic events, whether a portrait, wedding or other event, are once in a lifetime moments that cannot be reproduced, recreated or recaptured.  It is a unique privilege to be invited to be part of these events and to be trusted to capture them; something that I take extremely seriously.   I appreciate the absolute importance of not just getting the photography right, but creating images that will last a lifetime.  As my portfolio demonstrates, I have proven that I have the technical knowledge and experience to consistently achieve outstanding results for my clients, time and time again.

Why should a customer hire you over another service provider?

First, compare the work of each photographer.  You will instinctively know which photographer you prefer.  Compare the framing of the shot, the lighting, the posing of the subject, the finishing and the emotion in the image.  Then ask the following questions of each photographer: Are they formally qualified?  How many years’ experience do they have?  Are they a member of a professional association of photographers?  Once you have the answers to these questions, you will be able to make an informed decision about which photographer is best equipped to produce the best photographs of you and your loved ones and to provide you with images that will last a lifetime.

What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?

For events and weddings consider: The number of hours of coverage, the location, and how you would like your images to be delivered (e.g. album, prints, USB)?   For portraits consider: How many people are in the  portrait, their ages, the location, and how you would like to display your photographs (e.g. number of prints, size of prints)?

How do you normally charge for your service?

Accepted Answer

For weddings and events, prices are generally based on an hourly rate, which may be discounted depending on the length of coverage required.  If an album or framed prints are desired, I quote on these individually.   For portrait shoots, I offer a number of packages, depending on the number and size of prints required.    I am always happy to work with you to ensure that you understand the pricing and are comfortable with it.  I provide a full written and itemised quote before undertaking any work.

Is there a particular aspect of your trade or industry that you specialise in?

I specialise in wedding, event and portrait photography, but I what I really specialise in photographing people; helping my clients to feel confident and at ease in front of the camera and giving them the space to be themselves.  My speciality is to capture my clients at their best; both individually as well as the unique relationships between them, in the most unobtrusive way possible.   The best photographers listen to their clients, understand what their clients want, and have the technical skills and experience to create enduring images in accordance with their brief.  My clients can trust that I will create timeless and lasting images of them and their loved ones that will endure for years to come.

What experience, skills, qualifications or training do you have to make you the right person for the job?

I have a Bachelor of Arts (Commercial photography) from RMIT University.   I also have over 15 years experience working as a professional photographer.  I have formally qualified as an Associate of the Australian Institute of Professional Photographers (AIPP) and have received numerous awards for my photographic work.   My training and years of experience have equipped me with the skills to achieve consistently outstanding results for my clients.
