How did you decide to get into your line of work?

Photography has always been a part of me, but it was while working in Advertising and watching the pro's doing their stuff that I decided it was something I wanted to do.

Do you have a favourite customer story you would like to share?

I had a recent shoot for a grandfather who's family had demanded he give them some photos. Turns out his grandson was seriously ill and granddad was using the shoot to take a break for a short while. After a chat I find he loves Harley Davidson bikes, so I asked my fb friends if anyone had one and one of my biggest clients came forward and provided the most insane Harley I've ever seen. The 2 hours shoot was just amazing, he was so happy with the experience and his family were thrilled with the images.

What questions do customers commonly ask and how would you answer them?

The most common question is: How much? My answer is this. Imagine you want to buy a cake. You ask the baker how much? the Baker is going to ask you- what sort of cake do you want? a Sponge cake from the supermarket frozen isle or do you want a 5 tier wedding cake? It's better to approach a photographer and say- I've got $x what can you do?

What makes you the most reliable and trustworthy person for the job?

I've been around for a while now. I've shot for clients such as Volvo and Mercedes Benz magazine. You don't get those gigs without integrity.

Photography is all about the finished product. Check out my work, and if it speaks to you, then I'm the photographer for you.

What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?

Accepted Answer

You need to supply as much information about the job you need done before I will quote, please understand that to supply a quote from this service costs providers $15 a throw, so if you're just blue skying a project, ask for the quote when you actually get a budget together- if you want a rough idea of cost on a blue sky- work with $1000.  Providing an accurate quote is only possible if I know  the 5 w's. What, Why, When, Where, How; What am I shooting. is it a Bungalow, banana, bandana, bikini girls or BBQ? Why am I shooting it?  Magazine, framed image for the lounge room, online shopfront... When am I shooting it?; Morning? Night?- and when the the DEADLINE! Where am I shooting it? underwater? busy street? studio? How am I shooting it? from a car, helicopter or straight from the hip?

How can a customer save money before you start the work? Please give 3 tips

Commercial photography needs to perform, and fast. Spend your money on a Pro, and you'll spend it once. Get the photographer in early for your project- that way you can get a better idea of just what your budget is capable of and get the very best value. Have a clear idea of what the image needs to do- is it selling toothpaste to teenage boys? or is it going to WOW your foodie mate as a birthday pressie. Getting in a Photographer in to do your marketing is a bit like seeing a doctor for a toothache, they kinda know what to do, but if you're lucky,  they'll refer you on.

I am commissioned by a diverse range of clientele, from big corporations such as Volvo to individuals wanting to capture a special moment and although they are vastly different; both receive the same special attention to their projects.

For smaller projects I work on an estimation of the time it takes to complete the job, each type of photography requires different approaches and varying levels of post production; this is a good reason to talk to me early on in your project planning, so I can assist you in your expectations.

Being a commercial photographer in a remote area means I have a awesome opportunity to work in several specialities, it's exciting to land in the middle of nowhere and have to swap from portrait to product to marine, sometimes all in the same day!

I am a commercial photographer, my work takes me to some really cool places and I meet heaps of amazing people. I've got the degree, and I've got a decade plus of working behind the lens creating imagery for all manner of medium; print, billboards, web, catalogues, busses, even sandwich boards.
