Yes we are and yes we do! We work on a no fix, no cost model, but for the majority of jobs, there's always a fix!

How did you decide to get into your line of work?

With a passion for all things IT and a combined 20+ years of retail management in big box stores, we realised that a lot of customers were buying products without knowing how to use them. We were often asked by our customers to teach them how to use their devices, but management would prefer you to move them along and sell to the next customer. After seeing that gap, we decided that we wanted to be the difference, so we created Technologically Speaking in 2017

What do you like most about your job?

We also teach seniors in libraries how to use their technology. We do this as a free service to the elderly and it's very humbling to know that we've imparted our knowledge onto them and the feedback is always excellent. Sharing our knowledge with a compassionate and patient approach is what we love doing best

What questions should a customer ask to hire the right service professional?

I think the main question a customer should ask is in regards to the process. Have the technicians answer the question in a way that you understand. Jargon is Jargon, but all customers should be well aware of the work being completed, the time it takes and a clear explanation from the get go is the best way to achieve that

What questions do customers commonly ask and how would you answer them?

Every day and every customer is different, but for the most part, we are asked the difference between a standard Hard Drive and an "SSD". We tell our customers that an "SSD" or "Solid State Drive" is a much faster storage device than a conventional hard drive, with a much lower failure rate as it doesn't have any moving parts like a hard drive does. This means there's less chance for corruption or damage to the drive sustained by bumps or any physical impact.

Very honest and customer service focussed technicians. Coming from a retail management role, we strive to provide the best customer service we can give. We have been told many times before that we are some of the nicest, outgoing technicians as opposed to most that tend to be a little introverted and quiet.

What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?

As much as possible when it comes to a computer repair. Photos and videos are helpful when looking to diagnose physical damage. For all software or hardware enquiries, helping us out with any error codes or screen shots when enquiring and can make the diagnosis process a lot smoother.

How can a customer save money before you start the work? Please give 3 tips

For in home visits, have passwords handy. I couldnt count on ten hands the amount of times i've been at a customer's house and they spend 5-15 minutes of the billable hour trying to figure out their passwords. Making sure these are up to date and on hand will help us complete your task quicker!

What makes your pricing competitive?

We charge a minimum 1 hour including gst at $120 for all in home visits. If the task takes longer than an hour, we charge in 15 minute increments. If we finish the task within the first hour, we will stick around and help out with any other looming tech questions/problems.

How do you normally charge for your service?

For all home visits, we charge $120 for the first hour and then in 15 minute increments at $30.  In store, we have a range of prices for different services, from new computer builds, to repairs and upgrades.

Computer upgrades. We have saved hundreds of customers, thousands of dollars. Giving an older laptop new life through hardware upgrades and keeping it out of landfill is what we love doing most
