Are you an insured business and do you guarantee your work?

We have full public liablility and insurance via a specialised printing insurer.  We guarantee our work, however our quality control means we have had very few reprints required.

How did you decide to get into your line of work?

I worked as an administrator in this business when we were a paper merchant as well as a printing bureau.  I loved the printing side of the business, and when I had the opportunity to buy the business I jumped at it.

Do you have a favourite customer story you would like to share?

A young lady asked us to design a party invitation for her cousin; we did the design and she was really happy with it, and asked for 40 to be printed.  She took them home, and a relative wanted something different.  She was distressed, as she had paid for them herself, but we did a second design and print at a cheaper rate to help her out.  She recommended so many people to us I lost count of the number.

What do you like most about your job?

Our customers bring us a huge range of projects, such as business stationery & flyers, architectural plans, family photos, Christmas cards, invitations, posters, wheelie bin stickers, and signs.  The customers themselves are just as different.

I prefer to look at websites to validate my choice of contractor, and as such try to keep our own website user friendly and free of too much "industry speak"  Customers can check us out on the website, and compare us to others; in fact we have had customers come to us on the basis of our website alone.

Pricing is always an issue whether small or large projects.  We work with customers to make choices which will see them achieve their goal within their budgeting requirements.

We are a small family owned business, and we have to be honest, reliable, and diligent in meeting  all deadlines in order to compete with the big franchises.  We also work hard to ensure that Technoscan will be successful well into future generations.

Technoscan goes the extra mile for customers.  We take ownership of the complete job, and ensure the customer is completely happy with the end product.  We also treat our customers as real people.

What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?

We need to know if a poster needs to be waterproof, how many you require, the type and weight of stock, lead time, and if it is an outdoor sign, how long it will be up. Business cards - 300 or 400gsm, single or double sided, matte or gloss laminate; extras such as rounded corners, silver or gold foil, letterpress or our beautiful scodix varnish. How can a customer save money before you start the work? Please give 3 tips

You can save money by having a print ready design in the correct size/shape. Make sure you add at least 2 mm bleed on all sides. Make sure you have at least 4mm on all sides that are free of important text or graphics Make sure it is in CMYK colours

What makes your pricing competitive?

We run a lean machine, with no frills, and don't charge like a wounded bull.  For instance, we charge a flat fee for business card design instead of an hourly rate, so customers know in advance exactly how much it will cost

How do you normally charge for your service?

For regular customers we offer accounts which are 30 day terms.  Casual customers are invoiced as per the quoted price, and can settle the account by EFT, Credit card cash, or cheque.

For 20 years Technoscan specialised in plan printing, however we are now a one stop printing bureau.  We produce stationery, posters, signs, business cards, pull up banners and laminating.  We have a niche market  in small run printing.
