Accepted Answer

Yes absolutely. Insured for 20 million. 12 months warranty on parts and 3 months on labour. As long as the fault is the same as the original call.

How did you decide to get into your line of work?

Came out of the Navy in 1981 and was looking for an apprenticeship and a Refrigeration one came up. The rest as they say is history. Never looked back and loved every minute of it. And still do as I’ve never lost the passion.

The most recent one that comes to mind is I was working in a cafe where I cut my hand on a piece of stainless. I couldn’t drive so customer had to take me to hospital for treatment. I was embarrassed but grateful for them to go out of their way to do that for me. They Remain my loyal customer.

The versatility, as no two jobs are the same. Meeting different people from all walks of life and their different cultures. The ability to calm a customer when things get out of hand or they are stressed out because their equipment is not working and they are loosing sales because of it.

He should be asking the following.  1) Are u Trade licensed  2) Do u have a Electrical Restricted licence. 3) Do u have a Arctic licence ( Refrigerant Handling Licence to handle Refrigerant gas. ) 4) Are u Cert 111 Certified.  5) Do u have a QBCC Licence (Only for work exceeding $3000)!

1) How much do I charge 2) When can I attend. 3) is there anything they can do temporarily until I get there.  4) Is the equipment safe to use.  5) Do I take cheque’s, Bank transfer or cash.

Not too sure if I’m the most reliable and trustworthy but I still have the same clientele I had 2 years ago so I must be doing something right. A lot of my business is word of mouth so that accounts a lot to my credibility.

I’m Proficient, Reliable & Trustworthy. I have a very good work ethic and have been in the Industry for 38 years.

What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?

Make & model of equipment .  The status of the unit. I.e not cooling, noisy operation, too cold, leaking water, lights not working etc.  Fault or fault codes if it’s an Aircon.  And their opening and closing hours and busy times of the day when they are serving customers.

By ensuring the area is clear of any rubbish and the equipment is turned off and emptied before the service is conducted. That will save a lot of time and money.

I offer a discount rate for pensioners . Occasionally I offer special deals during the winter & summer seasons where I will reduce my call out rate .

I’m self employed with very Low overheads. I’m predominantly mobile and do not have premises and staff to cater for.

Call out Fee: $80 and $80 per hour.  Plus Materials & Gas used.  Excluding GST. Within 50 Klm radius .  Klm rates apply and travel time for jobs outside the 50 Klm radius.

Light Commercial Refrigeration & Residential Air Conditioning. I have worked on all major brands . Specialising in walk in cool rooms , Freezer rooms and General Refrigerated cabinets .
