How did you decide to get into your line of work?

I got into my line of work through work experience while I was in High School. I wanted to be a horse breaker before I got a taste of what the grooming industry had to offer. Once I got offered a job through the place I did work experience at, I started intense training and got really good and I had more and more customers who would love to bring their dogs to me. It made me so happy and it gave me the drive to become the most successful and well known dog groomer in NSW. I am still working towards my big goals and I am very happy to be in the industry still to this day.

Do you have a favourite customer story you would like to share?

I get so many customers in each week and there are so many great people I get the privilege of meeting everyday so it is hard to pin point just one favourite customer story but I would have to say that there are two lovely ladies that were so happy that I got back into grooming and that I had opened my own grooming salon, that they traveled all the way from Beresfield just to see me on my opening day at Tori's Pet Grooming. They are my best customers who have 5 dogs that they want me to groom, I am the only one that can groom one of their little boys who wont even let them brush him. I feel very privileged to have them two ladies as my very valued customers. People like them make my job wonderful.

What do you like most about your job?

I really love the feeling of making an animal happy and comfortable and seeing the pleased and excited look on an owners face when I bring out their dog to greet them after a groom. I also love seeing all different types of dogs/puppies and working with all different temperaments is challenging and keeps me working hard.

What questions should a customer ask to hire the right service professional?

It is very important for a customer to ask a lot of questions and do a lot of research. Some questions could include, "How long does a groom take?", "What is involved in the process?", "Is there anything I should know before booking my dog in for an appointment?". A good, professional and passionate groomer will always take the time to answer any questions you may have and is always willing to listen to what their client needs.

What questions do customers commonly ask and how would you answer them?

One of the most commonly asked questions in my profession is "What is the best way to treat fleas?" My answer is simple, a good spot on (Frontline, Advantix, Advocate, etc), along with regular grooming and making sure that your environment has been treated as well as there is only 5% of the population of fleas on your dog, the rest is in the environment (e.g. bedding, carpet, floorboards, backyards, etc). Flea tablets such as Comfortis and Capstar are also some of the best methods of preventing fleas. By putting these steps into practice I guarantee that you will not have any other problems. Of course, if you are still not convinced, come in and see us, we will be happy to chat.

I have been in the industry for 5 years and have owned dogs all of my life, I have extensive knowledge and training with animals and I am very passionate about the health and well being of animals. I am capable of handling all temperaments and if you are in need of some knowledge or advice, I am quite happy to answer any questions you may have.

What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?

We like to find out some key information before we can quote you an exact price, breed of dog, weight of dog, what type of service you would like (bath only, full clip, maintenance clip, etc), if the dog is matted and if they need anything like a flea rinse or any optional extras.

It's quite simple, you will save on fuel money as we are the only dog grooming salon in Weston and Kurri Kurri, we will tell you exactly what prices to expect before we start on your dog and we will do what YOU desire when it comes to grooming your dog, no more spending ridiculous amounts of money on your pet to get groomed only to find out you dont like the job, we will make sure we get all the information from you and do exactly as you wish!

I normally charge by the size of the dog and the time it takes to complete a groom. There is a price list on the Facebook page and we are always happy to answer any questions you may have about the pricing and/or our services, etc.

I would have to specialise in dogs of all pets to groom, I do all kinds of grooms for dogs and doing breed specific clips would have to be a very interesting and fun part of my profession.
