Frequently Asked Questions
Why should a customer hire you over another service provider?
Your pet is my priority. I work alone and in quiet, only by appointment, so its one on one. Time and patience is given to those dogs that struggle being groomed.
I only use "Smiley Dog" Shampoos for bathing, Aussie made and natural, great smell and great clean.
What experience, skills, qualifications or training do you have to make you the right person for the job?
15 years Terriers (trained by old masters in old techniques - I DO NOT use a coat king!)
2 Years Scissor/Clipper work under master groomers.
I regually compete in grooming competitions (Placing at all so far) and attend workshops and visiting top groomer lectures to update my skills.
Is there a particular aspect of your trade or industry that you specialise in?
Hand Stripping the traditional way. I show my own Terriers (Cairns) so this is something I have done for a long time. I have also give a seminar and workshop to other groomers early 2017. I plan to also specialise in Asian Fusion, and am enjoying working with a Master at her salon.
How do you normally charge for your service?
My charges are within industry standards.
Full Groom: S $70 M $85 L $95-$110 (Aprox. Base rate)
Hand Scissor and Breed Clips, slightly extra.
What makes your pricing competitive?
Its within industry standards and I believe in my skills to give a quality groom in a reasonable time without upsetting your pup.
I would never undercut my colleges to get work.
I have standards so I expect my clients to as well.
Are there any special offers you would like to offer to Oneflare customers?
Yes, often I have special offers. Its usually a percentage off a groom, or a free bath. These are updated on my website.
How can a customer save money before you start the work? Please give 3 tips
Keep the coat combed. I usually suggest a good metal comb as the best tool to own...EBAY them, Stainless Stell Combs. No handle, just comb. Then make sure you are line combing to the skin, "Layer, upon, layer, upon layer"
What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?
*Type of Groom
*What sort of groom you were after
*Anything significant: bite, scared, hates dryers etc
Are you an insured business and do you guarantee your work?
I am currently looking into different insurance companies to use.
Guarantee the work for what?
I guarantee it will grow back...I guarantee your dog will like me....I guarantee I have toys and treats (if allowed) ;)
What makes you the most reliable and trustworthy person for the job?
My killer smile...
Just kidding. If your dog hates me, run away...who doesn't trust their dog??
But I promise he/she will and THAT makes me worth a shot to try, then you decide :)
What do you like most about your job?
* My furry clients
* New products to try
* Meeting new clients
* Satisfaction of seeing a scruffy doggie walk in and a clean and tidy dog walk out
What questions do customers commonly ask and how would you answer them?
Cash or Card?
I have purchased for my clients ease a Square reader. EFTS or CC.
Between 1 and 3 hours (Handstrip 3 hours)
Can I stay?
Sure, I love to chat as I work, but most find it easier to go do some things and come back.
What questions should a customer ask to hire the right service professional?
Do you LOVE your job? Do you know HOW to groom my breed? What products do you use? Will my dog be safe with you?
Do you have a favourite customer story you would like to share?
Take a Westie whom her owners thought she would never recover a harsh coat and working with it over a period of time to make it appear!
How did you decide to get into your line of work?
After showing and grooming my own dogs I became more interested in different types of breeds and how to groom them.
