We are a large full-time ABN numbered, registered business, with 2 factory/warehouse plus our admin office. but 95% of all the other mobile DJs are part-timers, with just one person behind their Facebook page, or their business name (if they even have one).

Why should a customer hire you over another service provider?

We have proper venue exp DJs playing CDs (so much better sound quality) on $4,500 Pioneer DJ CD players thru a $2,500 4 channel Pioneer sound mixer, NOT uni students playing highly compressed mp3s on $600-$800 laptops. And we provide Yamaha or Peavey amplifiers (over $2,000 worth) driving nightclub standard 30kg speakers (over $3,500 a pair) in timber cabinets, NOT cheap 7 or 8kg plastic cabinet PA speakers with a built-in amplifier chip (only about $800 to $1100 worth per pair). You NEVER see live bands or pubs/clubs or other venues using plastic cabinet speakers, so what does that tell you? Plus we provide $5,500 worth of proper nightclub lighting effects putting out up to 11 separate colours NOT just 2 or 3 cheap plastic LED lights from "The Reject Shop" which only put out 3 colours and only cost about $40 each. Sadly that is all the lighting most DJs give you.

What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?

To hear what YOU want, so please phone, then we can give you a quote instantly. One phone call is much less time-consuming than emailing or messaging each other back and forth several times over 2 or 3 days. A phone conversation gives both of us instant answers. Surely you agree that typing those emails or messages takes up too much time for BOTH of us, and then getting answers depends on how long those emails or messages take to be seen by each of us.

Sorry, but this sort of thing is not applicable in the mobile disco and DJ hire business in any way. It would only be relevant to trades people listed here on Oneflare, such as plumbers, carpenters, electricians etc

That doesn't really apply in the mobile DJ business. And I prefer to speak to potential customers in person over the phone - messaging back and forth takes up too much valuable time for both parties.

All jobs are different, so they are all quoted individually based on all the details we get after we talk to the customer and get all those necessary details from them, plus get to hear THEIR thoughts about any specifice needs they have, and how they want their function to run.

How do you normally charge for your service?

Accepted Answer

We quote every job individually depending on what the customer tells us they want, so we welcome a phone call from any prospective customer so they can tell us EXACTLY what they want/expect, as well as ask us questions about our DJs, our sound equipment, our disco lighting, our Request Books and any other questions than can think of. Plus we will ask them for a few more questions about lots of little details that we need. Once we have all those little details , THEN we can give them an accurate quote immediately.

Is there a particular aspect of your trade or industry that you specialise in?

No. We provide DJs for ANY sort of celebration - Birthdays (from 10ths to 70ths (and we have even done 2 x 90ths), Primary Schools (usually daytime or "twilight" type events) Fetes, School Socials and Formals, Uni Functions, Balls/Dinner Dances, Charity Fundraisers, Engagements, Wedding Receptions, Sports Club Presentation Nights and "After Match" nights. We recently even did a celebration for a Veterinary Surgery/Hospital when it re-opened after a renovation. This was a 10am to 1pm event in their car-park!!

What experience, skills, qualifications or training do you have to make you the right person for the job?

I have managed 2 very popular, very busy hotels, one in the city and one in South Yarra, both of which featured live entertainment and DJs, plus I have managed a 3am nightclub and a 7am night club. I have also worked as a resident DJ in 39 different bars/clubs around Melbourne for many years - that is, I was the main entertainment that people queued up outside and paid an entry fee to come in and see. I often worked in 3 or even 4 venues at once on different nights of the week - mainly Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays but sometimes on Sundays. Of those 39 bars/clubs, I spent 3 years at "Crown Casino" (which was on Sunday nights), 12 years at "Inflation" nightclub in King St and 14 years at a nightclub in Church St Brighton that had 4 different owners, so 4 different names - "F.Scotts", then "Rockefellers", then "Jakes" and finally "Mint". Just like I have, all my DJs have also worked in bars/clubs where people have paid to go in and see them, so I call my guys "proper" DJs. I won't employ any DJ that hasn't had this type of bar/club experience - and that applies to 95% (or maybe even more) of mobile DJs. NONE of them will EVER have any true DJ skills, or have the HUGE music knowledge of all music types and styles and all eras that my DJs have, and of course they also won't have the HUGE music collections of all types and styles and all eras of music that my "proper" pub/club experienced DJs do have to back up their huge, wide-ranging music knowledge. That's why I call all those other guys "hobby" DJs - since NONE of them will EVER be good enough to get a job in a pub or bar or club where people would queue up and actually pay an entry fee to go in and see these amateurish "hobby" DJs play.
