Are you an insured business and do you guarantee your work?

I do have professional indemnity and public liability insurance. There are several legal requirements, and your marriage celebrant's job is to ensure that your marriage cannot be declared invalid.

How did you decide to get into your line of work?

I was a celebrant's assistant for many years, learning the ropes from someone more experienced.  I was able to find out what worked, and didn't work.  I enjoy working with people to craft very special ceremonies.

This is a note that I received from Bruce and Rowena. "We are writing to let you know how sincerely grateful we are for such a beautiful, relaxed and warm ceremony! Many people complimented both you and your lovely assistant on your professional and warm approach to our special day. Your highly organised mannerism ensured that our day ran smoothly and beautifully. What do you like most about your job?

I enjoy interacting with people and helping them plan and celebrate the major events in their lives - including weddings, namings, Christenings and anniversary celebrations.

What questions should a customer ask to hire the right service professional?

Accepted Answer

How well does the celebrant present herself? You will be investing a considerable amount of money and effort on dresses, suits, hair and makeup.  Do you want a celebrant who runs in late, looking scruffy and untidy? I have thousands of photographs to show my ability to blend in and enhance your wedding, whilst remembering that I am not the focal point of your wedding, you are!

What documents do I need to provide to the celebrant? If you were born in Australia, you would need to provide your birth certificate.  If you were born overseas, a birth certificate or foreign passport are required.  If you have been previously, you will need to provide evidence of how the marriage terminated (divorce or death certificate).

In my eighteen years as a full time professional celebrant, I have conducted in excess of 3,500 ceremonies for people from all walks of life.   I am honoured to be a regular finalist in the NSW Bridal Industry Awards. I have hundreds of UNSOLICITED testimonials from satisfied clients.  Over 80% of my clients are referred!

Why should a customer hire you over another service provider?

I believe that your wedding ceremony should reflect your views, wishes, beliefs, expectations and personalities.  There are no second chances!  It is important that the celebrant you select is able to get it right!  I take immense pride in my communication and language skills, pronunciation, and voice projection.  With my many years experience as a radio presenter, you can be assured that your ceremony will be conducted with warmth and sincerity.

What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?

I would love to help make your wedding ceremony romantic, personal and relaxed. I just need to know where (suburb/locality/venue), and when (date and preferred time) you plan to be married.   It would also be helpful if you could advise your name and your fiance's.  A phone number would also be helpful. How many guests are you thinking of having?

Please let me know if you're wanting a Wedding, Christening or Naming Ceremony. It would help if you let me know how many guests you are expecting. Where and what time you're planning your ceremony

I would be happy to include the use of a gold or silver "dragon" pen for you to sign the marriage documents, the use of a double ring box and lots of advice for symbolism.

What makes your pricing competitive?

To conduct a quality wedding ceremony takes careful planning and time.  There are several hours of behind the scenes preparations that are rarely seen.  I will take care of all the necessary legal requirements.

How do you normally charge for your service?

My fees start from a low $395 for a weekday wedding ceremony.  Weekend or after hours wedding ceremonies start from $495, depending on the amount of travel and level of service required.

Is there a particular aspect of your trade or industry that you specialise in?

I specialise in Unity Sand Ceremonies.  I also have lots of ways of including traditional customs, spiritual content, symbols, ribbons, candles, children and other participants in your ceremony.

What experience, skills, qualifications or training do you have to make you the right person for the job?

Accepted Answer

Many celebrants have been appointed as marriage celebrants after having attended a basic two day course.  However it takes many years to master the many and varied aspects of Celebrancy, the marriage act and all the legal implications.  I have a CERT IV in Marriage Celebrancy and eighteen years experience as a full-time celebrant.
