Are you an insured business and do you guarantee your work?

Accepted Answer

Yes AATD is insured and we guarantee our work for the life of the dog. Again the changes we make are for your dogs benefit, so it's important to remember that there will be short term changes to make your dog realise thing have changed. There will also be lifelong changes again for your dogs benefit, to make sure he/she doesn't regress in the future.

How did you decide to get into your line of work?

My wife at the time, wanted us to do something together on weekends. Our lives were pretty hectic and we were missing out on quality time together. well, we thought about it and decided we would volunteer at the local animal shelter. We went through orientation together and when the time came for our first day of volunteering "together", for whatever reason, she couldn't (lost interest) make it. I did and every opportunity I could put in an hour or two, I was there walking dogs, cleaning runs and attending every course I could to learn as much as I could about mans best friend. Thats how it started.

Do you have a favourite customer story you would like to share?

Diesel!  Diesel was already waiting on death row. A Sydney council had served notice to the owner that a date had been set for him to be put to sleep. The owner, who adored this dog actually got a barrister involved. Anyway long story short, an agreement was reached. Council would put the order on hold if Diesel's owner actively sort rehabilitation. Diesel was presented to several trainer, all wouldn't touch him, for any amount of money. one trainer described him as a "natural born killer"and "evil". Eventually the owner spoke to his vet about the situation. the vet told him to try me. I REALLY didn't want to take him, but I also couldn't walk away, just because of the challenge. Diesel was everything they said he was.... worse! first dog that actually scared me, because he made clear he did not like me and given the chance he wanted to "dance". Diesel had attacked both humans and dogs and did some serious damage. It took about three months, but when he walked away from AATD, all his aggression was gone. he could play in a paddock with 10-15 dogs and actually play and have fun. his attitude toward humans was a complete 180 change and most importantly diesel and I were best mates. The death notice was lifted and Diesel was allowed home, with conditions for 12 months of course. What I was so happy about was that anytime his owner turned into my street, Diesel would get excited and greet me with respect, but it was always like two old buddies catching up.

What do you like most about your job?

This is a job I chose, because I wanted to make a difference. the job didn't chose me. I get as much enjoyment today, hanging and talking about dogs as I did when I first started in this game. My passion for this industry just gets stronger each year. Because you're always learning something new on a daily basis

What questions should a customer ask to hire the right service professional?

Don't be afraid to ask for a couple of phone numbers of clients as a testimonial. ask for two or three. Don't think you're out of line by asking for one of those numbers to be from a professional. for example, a vet. think outside the box even. Ask for a number from a rescue organisation. You'll quickly find out if money is their motivator or if they actually are committed to the industry as a whole. Every dog trainer/behaviourist specialist should be affiliated with a rescue organisation. It's only fair.

The most common question I get asked, funnily enough, it's not how much do you charge. That will come up later in the conversation of course. But the most common questions are: 1) Can you help? Answer. Yes. 2) Have I left it too late for my dog to get rehabilitation? Answer. No. 3) I bet you've never heard of a dog doing this............ Answer. Yes I have actually.

What makes you the most reliable and trustworthy person for the job?

My motivation and loyalty is firstly with your dog. I know you are paying the bills, but my goal is to see your dog emotionally content and physically at there peak. Sadly the owner(s), come a very close second. It's nothing personal, it's just an approach I've developed over the years and it works, with everyone happy. If your dog wasn't number one on my list, I believe, I wouldn't be in this game for the right reasons

Why should a customer hire you over another service provider?

AATD has the reputation of telling to owner the facts. Sometimes, not exactly what the owner may want to hear, but needs to hear. If you want your ego petted and be told everything is fine, when it's not, we're not the people to speak to. Our loyalty is and always will be with your dog. Yes, we'll give you the facts, but more importantly, we'll give you a solution. What we won't do, is stretch training/behavioural appointments to line our pockets. We work with both you and your dog to give you all the information and tools you need to put you ahead of the game. Our mission is to build your confidence, place you in charge of your K9 relationship and leave you to continue with the practices that work. If we look after you with the best value education, make it as cost affective as we can, we hope you'll tell your friends about us. Our most successful from of advertising is referrals and word of mouth.

What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?

By the end of the consult, I will have all the information I need to give you a firm quote and time frame. It is also important to know that we will enter an agreement and that is if you (the whole family) don't follow through with your part of our arrangement, you are wasting your money and my time. The real loser in that scenario will be your dog. So, it's important that when we work together, we both keep up our end of the bargain. If for no one else do it for your dog.

to maybe save money and time, here are three tips that may help 1) If we set up an appointment, if I advise you to make a couple of changes. like it or not go ahead with the changes.  2) Any advise I give you over the phone prior to our appointment is for you benefit. 3) I can not emphasise this enough. for our first consult, approach it with an open mind. I'm here to help.

I have no idea how competitive my pricing is. I don't worry about my competitors. If anything, I think with my reputation and success rate. I actually may have put my pricing a little under the bar. It's been so long since I've chosen to do house calls again.

Cost Of the first consultation is $320.00 A consult can takes anywhere from an hour to an hour and a half. It is pretty intense. I'll have a lot of questions and I want as much feedback as you can give me. I want to cover everything in the initial consult. By the time we are finished, you will know 1) What the issues are. 2) The plan. What I intend to do to help you and your pet, as well as the methods I will be using 3) Your involvement to make the transition as easy as possible and most cost effective for you. 4) The expected time frame for behaviour modification and training. 5) Most importantly. You make the final decision. There's no big sales pitch, no pressure selling. We are not a franchise where "you'll be contacted by our trainer in your area". AATD is my baby and the only person you'll be dealing with is Tim Twomey, the owner of All About The Dog

Is there a particular aspect of your trade or industry that you specialise in?

Our passion is canine behaviour and behaviour modification. Dominance, aggression, hyperactive dogs are just a few behaviours we specialise in. Most dogs that come to us for training need their unwanted behaviours addressed first. The training is the easy part. The most important part is to open the dogs mind to be open to suggestion from the human.
