Frequently Asked Questions
-
Why should a customer hire you over another service provider?
My work is deliberate to involve the client completely and allow their input through education to produce a building most of my clients want to live in for life. I am an excellent listener and seem to be able to interpret their ideas while using the best their environment offers for view and sun. I offer my first appointment free of charge and commitment, see everyone else you want to first and then ask the hard questions from me and see the difference. I normally charge $595 + gst for the first appointment but for this month only will provide it free, but be quick because I can only look at 3 clients a month.
-
What experience, skills, qualifications or training do you have to make you the right person for the job?
My background is from an early age hands on building with a speculative builder and then educating myself in Architectural Draughting (intermediate) followed up with hands on training in top quality Architectural offices and the state housing department at the time. I then went on to establish my own business offering design and construction employing staff to produce a new build, alteration or addition to a high standard. My clients were o impressed they recommended me to their neighbours and friends at one time building 3 houses through one client.
-
Is there a particular aspect of your trade or industry that you specialise in?
I specialise in Passive Solar Design and take maximum advantage of the site to maximise views. Using the suns energy to warm the homes in winter but eliminating the effects of sun in summer through clever design with full understanding of the suns movement through the seasons.
-
How do you normally charge for your service?
My charges are normally on a fee basis. I had tried to charge an hourly rate but the cost would be prohibitive if I charge for my time thinking and deliberating. I provide excellent service for the fee I charge and will see you through to the end providing advise all the way through.
-
What makes your pricing competitive?
My pricing is at least half of the cost for a group builders overhead and gives you the owner full control.

Are there any special offers you would like to offer to Oneflare customers?
Because you are a customer through One Flare I will provide my services free to begin with, to engage in an interview to obtain a brief and even to design your building to the point that if you do not like what I design for any reason you will not pay a cent to me. No money will be paid to me unless you do like the design I provide for you.

How can a customer save money before you start the work? Please give 3 tips
1.) The clients could have a working set of plans for their existing home if it is an alteration of addition.
2.) they could have a site survey showing features of the site.
3.) If they pay up front I am happy to offer a free model of the project. -
What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?
The most important thing I need to know is how much money they want to spend on their project. Sometimes this can be unrealistic because they may be over capitalising and I have advised the client to the extent they sell up and buy something else, thereby doing myself out of a job.
-
Are you an insured business and do you guarantee your work?
I have no insurance for my design work but have lots of experience to show the value of my work. However if we undertake construction we would put in place appropriate insurances. I guarantee my work to the extent that if you do not like it you do not pay.
-
What makes you the most reliable and trustworthy person for the job?
i love what I do and do what I love which makes it not a job so reliability is inherent because I couldn't consider doing anything else. I live for designing peoples houses and work long hours studying options and ideas to create the final project. I have good morals and integrity to ensure my clients are first always.
-
What questions do customers commonly ask and how would you answer them?
The most common question is how long will it take?
My answer is 2 -3 weeks for the concept design but to finalise the initial design can take weeks and months. I always say you can't hurry good design and believe that. -
What questions should a customer ask to hire the right service professional?
Are you prepared to guarantee your work to the extent you would work for nothing if I do not like what you design? Do you keep educated on the different building processes to ensure my build is not economical but sustainable and reduces my utility bills once built?
-
What do you like most about your job?
I love to meet new people and that they welcome me into their own homes and and into their hearts. I have to ask personal questions at the time of interview and they confide in me in such a way I can create something magical for them. The best thing is the look on their faces when I present the ideas to them and they say over and over again I have included everything they wanted, there is nothing to change.,
-
Do you have a favourite customer story you would like to share?
My best project ever was an unlimited budget and the house was designed around a specific dining table which was pie segment in shape with different coloured leather dining chairs.
-
How did you decide to get into your line of work?
At the age of 12 I wanted to design houses and fulfilled my wish having spent over 40 years since designing not only million dollar homes but simple economic sustainable Passive Solar homes and using the same principles in commercial work and churches.
