How did you decide to get into your line of work?

I remember my very first encounter with graphic design at Headworx, Currumbin Waters (surf apparel brand) in 1994 and when I went on to study the foundations of graphic design at tafe in 1998, Photoshop was on a compact disc - I’m not quite the veteran designer yet, but I’m fast approaching that status!  Design, art, illustration and creativity has always come so naturally to me. I love it and I feel very confident in this space.

Do you have a favourite customer story you would like to share?

My favourite customer is still my ongoing client - Impact Supplements. I've been servicing their brand as the creative director for over 3 years now. I think having this loyal, honest and consistent professional relationship is a testament to my ability to see through the lense of the clients eyes. I give a customer my all when I see that they value me as their designer.

I love what I do! I also illustrate and draw! I love that I can do these creative things for people!

What questions should a customer ask to hire the right service professional?

You need to have a clear understanding of what you need first, so that you can ask the designer the right questions. Graphic Designers can specialise in so many different areas and some of us have more experience than others. I think a good question to ask is - how do you project manage your tasks and your time? If a designer uses on-line project management tools such as Trello, Asana and Monday, you will know that they are clear with their timeframes and can manage your expectations appropriatly.

straight away - what is your rate?  I answer - $80/hour I then offer them a lower rate if the client requires on-going contract work.
