How did you decide to get into your line of work?

As a Registered Builder (VBA) and accredited electrical engineer, Vic always had a passion for property and construction. By the age of 19, he had already built his first home and kick-started his construction career...  Over the years, Vic continued to grow a successful cabinetry business where consultation, design and construction were always to the highest standard. Around this time, he graduated with an honours degree in electrical engineering and, with both hands-on skills and specialised knowledge, he was also admitted as a Registered Builder with the VBA.   After building lovely new homes, designing fit-outs, reconstructing old buildings to a safe standard and building beautiful home extensions, Vic decided to direct his attention towards client consultation. How quickly can you do the inspections and produce professional and full detailed reports? Allow 24 hour from the time we conduct the relevant inspections. The inspections can be conducted the same day that they are booked and this mainly depends on obtaining permission to access.

How can a customer save money before you start the work? Please give 3 tips

1. You should have your Building and Pest Inspection completed before your purchase any property so that you are empowered with knowledge of any potential issues. This will give you a chance to negotiate with the Vendor (Agent) or even pull out of your contract all together.  2. More important than the price is what you actually get for your money! Inquire about what the inspection service includes and what your report will detail and how will it be written. For example, does the report include photographs with explanations written in plane English? Will the inspection and report meet or exceed relevant Australian Standards? Is the actual inspector conducting the work and writing your report a fully qualified building professional registered and licensed with the VBA as an unrestricted domestic builder (not just the boss)? The inspector should have an appropriate degree qualification with at least 5 years building inspection experience.  We know of a few companies that quick train staff in a few weeks and then send them out to inspect properties on their behalf, armed only with a company badge and a clipboard tick-box sheet. These ones claim that they are qualified after a few weeks of in-house training, so Beware!  3. Be careful who you engage - Our advice is don't book with franchised operators who fast train inexperienced staff to tick check boxes and may not be registered individually with the Victorian Building Authority. Though the franchisee may have insurance and backing - do you really want to go to court if it all goes wrong? Our opinion is that if your budget is that tight - consider a DIY online checklist approach instead.
