Are you an insured business and do you guarantee your work?

We have professional indemnity insurance as required by the Legal Profession Act, unfortunately in Law and in particular litigation and Court work there is nothing guaranteed as the decision is ultimately in the hands of the Court, we do however advise if your matter is weak or has a likelihood of success.

How did you decide to get into your line of work?

Since I was a teenager, I always wanted to study and practice law, after I finished school I worked and studied at various places, I then enrolled in University, finished Uni then got may experience and started my own practice.

There are many client stories, however on that brings to mind a client was charged with a particular offence, after speaking with the customer and viewing the avilable evidence the client was advised that a plea of guilty may be appropriate in the circumstance, the client followed our advice and we mitigated the matter in Court which resulted in the matter being dismissed with out a recorded conviction.

What do you like most about your job?

I enjoy the variety of the work, working in different areas of law makes it very interesting as no two matters are the same, there are times were all the work is done from the desk and there are other times where I am in Court for instance, this variety makes it vey enjoyable and of course once I deliver the service to the customer and assist them in achieving their desired out come it is very rewarding.

Clients are different and have different expectations some are driven by price some are driven by service or some are driven by both, but the clients should consider if the person is experienced if they have done this work before,and of course what the person is going to charge, having said that price alone is not an indicator that you will get the best service and that applies to anybody or any industry not just law!!!

Most customers ask about price, how long a matter is likely to take to complete, some customers will ask specific questions about their matter, others ask if we work flexible hours to meet their needs.

What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?

There are some matters that can be quoted straight away for example conveyancing, however there are other situations where we can not provide a quote over the telephone, as their are many factors that will dictate the cost for example, amount of money claimed if any, the complexity of the matter, the available or required paper work, if there are already proceedings on foot, if the matter has already been dealt with on any level and the elapsed time.

In order for clients to save money they need to be clear on what they want, they need to be honest and clear on their instructions, they also need to make sure that once the work to be done and the costs explained, make an informed decision whether this is what they want and they can afford it.

our prices are very competitive , because we take the time to understand and listen to the clients needs from the start to end, we guide the clients in making informed decisions so there is no wastage and we do not have the overheads of some of the larger firms so we are able to pass this cost on to the clients.

How do you normally charge for your service?

Each matter is different, there are some matters that we agree with the client to charge a lump sum fee, which will include disbursements and GST. There are other matters which we will charge on an hourly rate, plus GST, plus any disbursements. All these costs are explained in the client cost agreement.
