Yes, Can Do Ceremonies is fully insured by the Australian Federation of Civil Celebrants, of which I am a member, for both Public Liability, and Copyright Insurance.

How did you decide to get into your line of work?

I am a positive, friendly and creative lady, who has been involved in wedding ceremonies since my late teens, first as a soloist singing at weddings, and later as a celebrant. It was a natural progression for me to become more involved, and I enjoy it immensely.

Do you have a favourite customer story you would like to share?

How can I choose only one favourite story, I have so many!  Maybe getting drenched on the beach during a wedding in Apollo Bay, everyone's hair plastered onto our heads, Umbrella's blowing inside out, and needing to do the legal paperwork later at the reception instead of being part of the ceremony.  The rain didn't dampen anyone's spirit. It was one of the most fun weddings I have ever done. (and a featured photo on my website.)

What do you like most about your job?

It is wonderful to be able to bring the dreams and visions of a happy couple to life, and to be part of such an exciting and joyous day in their lives, and the lives of family and friends.  I see many of my couples again a few years later when children arrive, and I am asked to be part of Naming celebrations. Who would not love to be surrounded by all that love and fun!!!

What questions should a customer ask to hire the right service professional?

To become a Civic Celebrant we all must complete, and pass, the required training, and we are all subject to the same police screening and checks.  Where we differ from each other is in our personalities and our artistic talents.  My style is laid back and friendly, other Celebrants may be more traditional, others may be more over the top! Speaking with two or three celebrants on the phone will soon indicate which style best fits you, and your ideas for your wedding.       Most couples also like to be assured that their vision, their ideas for their wedding ceremony will be respected. When I present the wedding ceremony to their guests, and as I am speaking “as for them”, the ceremony will have been re written as many times as needed, to reflect their ideas and feelings.

What questions do customers commonly ask and how would you answer them?

What legal information do couples need to provide to a Celebrant.  Your celebrant will need to see the following paperwork.  The original copy of both you and your partner’s birth certificate.  If you do not have this paperwork, these can be obtained through the Births, Deaths and Marriages Register, and can be done on line. Please be advised that it may take 2/3 weeks for this information to come to you.  If you were born overseas, you will need to contact your country of birth's Embassy. If either of you have been married before- either a divorce or death certificate, as proof that you are free to marry again. Again, copies can be obtained through the Births, Deaths and Marriages Register.   (If these documents are in a language other than English, it may be necessary to have them looked at by a translator.) If you can satisfy the above, that is all that will be necessary.

What makes you the most reliable and trustworthy person for the job?

This will be very important day for you.  Your celebrant should think so too!  Having a chat over the phone will give you an idea of how well you can talk together, and if you feel you could discuss your ideas for your wedding easily with them. I like to meet with couples in their own home, where they feel comfortable. There is no obligation with this meeting.

You will not know if I am the right Celebrant for you, until we have a chat on the phone, or by email.  Having a chat over the phone will give you an idea of how well we can talk together, and if you feel you could discuss your ideas for your wedding easily with me.

What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?

I conduct ceremonies in the Melbourne and surrounding areas, and also in many country areas.  I will need to know the date you have chosen, and the location you have chosen for the wedding ceremony. The venue name if possible, or if the venue has not yet been decided if your wedding is to be held in a Garden, Chapel, Beach etc......

How can a customer save money before you start the work? Please give 3 tips

To make sure that you are legally married, you must choose a Celebrant registered by the Attorney Generals Department to officiate at your wedding.  We are all listed in their website, and also in the Births, Deaths and Marriages web site. There are documents that will be needed, and it would be helpful to have them gathered before your meeting with your celebrant.

What makes your pricing competitive?

Accepted Answer

All celebrants set their own fee's. My fee is all inclusive and covers all legalities and the costs to register your marriage with the Birth, Death's and Marriage Department in Melbourne.  On receipt of your lodgement fee your chosen date is recorded, and my promise to you is that the full day will be yours!  I do not book two ceremonies on the same day.

How do you normally charge for your service?

My quoted fee covers any Melbourne area, or an area of  up to 1 hours travel time.  If when we arrange a meeting, you were to engage me to be your celebrant, we would then do the signing of the legal paperwork which is the start of your wedding. I ask for a lodgment fee of $150.00 to be paid at that time, which holds the agreed date of your wedding, and guarantees my attendance on the day to solemnize your marriage and conduct the wedding ceremony.

As a celebrant I write and perform ceremonies for my clients that will uniquely represent them and their relationship, their personal values and beliefs.  It is wonderful to be able to bring the dreams and visions of a happy couple to life, and to be part of a day in their lives, and in the lives of family and friends, which will touch hearts, and be a beautiful experience that will be remembered by all.I specialize in Weddings predominantly, and have conducted weddings in restaurants, in wedding chapels, in the couple’s home, on farms and on the beach.  I have also written ceremonies which have incorporated a child or baby naming ceremony within the wedding ceremony.

What experience, skills, qualifications or training do you have to make you the right person for the job?

I am in a very happy place in my life, now working in a profession that I have wanted to be involved in for many years.   Until a few years ago the government criteria for appointing Civic Celebrants was for only a certain number of celebrants be appointed for each location, in any city, in any part of Australia. It was only possible to become a Civil Celebrant if the number of celebrants in your local area went below that prescribed number (if a registered celebrant resigned or died etc….).    Changes to that ruling were instigated a few years ago, which has enabled me to do the training, undergo the testing and  take the various police checks which are required, to be registered by the Attorney Generals Department as a Civil Celebrant, authorized to solemnize wedding’s anywhere within Australia.   I completed that training in 2006, then did further training as a Funeral celebrant the following year.  Working in an office environment, particularly in the accounting field, has taught me many of the skills I now use as a celebrant, as  mandatory and “proper”  record keeping is a major requirement for any celebrant, along with attention to detail.
