Caring 4 Sydney Pets is a fully insured business and I show my customers the paperwork for the insurance as well as the document showing i have been police checked.

How did you decide to get into your line of work?

I had found myself out of work and there was very little interest in me for jobs that I was applying for.  I decided to put myself through a small business course, registered my business and I had my first customer emailing me 5 days later.  I saw the prices some pet sitters charged and decided to create a business plan where I would be able to offer a more affordable service.

Do you have a favourite customer story you would like to share?

I was looking after 2 cats and 2 dogs for a customer up near Castle Hill and after visiting them for a week I got to the last visit and said goodbye to them.  As i walked out the door, I looked back and both dogs were sitting in the hallway 10 feet away looking at me. And further back up the hallway the 2 cats were doing the same... which was amazing as the older cat had been asleep minutes earlier.  They knew I was going and were sending me off..... and I will always remember that,

What do you like most about your job?

As an animal lover I get to meet so many different cats, dogs and other pets and each of them is different in their own way.  I get on with most pets and have only had one cat that refused to have anything to do with me and was feral if I got too close. I always observe their body language to ensure my safety and to approach them only when they want me to.

What questions should a customer ask to hire the right service professional?

As the pet sitter is going into their home, the customer needs to meet the sitter and see the documents showing the business is insured and that the sitter has been police checked.  The customer meets the sitter at the initial meeting and can ask questions such as their experience with pets, can they give the pets medication or injections and can make certain they are happy with the sitter.

What questions do customers commonly ask and how would you answer them?

A number of my customers have never used a pet service before so they are new to the whole thing and so they ask what steps are required.  I explain to them that we have an initial meeting (no charge) before they go so they meet me and I can meet the pets. At the meeting ideally I will get a copy of the keys to the home which are returned when the customer gets back.  I ask for additional details like the details of the vet in case I have concerns.

I have setup a business in pet care because I am an animal lover and I treat other peoples pets the same way I treat my own.  i see pets are like children, they are part of someone's family and I treat the pets with care and respect as well as their home.

Why should a customer hire you over another service provider?

Accepted Answer

I provide a pet service my customers love where I only charge for the visit to their home and do not charge for how many pets they have.  My best customer comes back to me every few months for a 2 to 4 week arrangement where I look after his 5 cats while he is away.

What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?

To provide a quote I need to know where the customer is located as the distance to travel each visit will make a difference in how much i charge.  For longer periods where the customer is away I will try to give discounts the longer the customer is away.

How can a customer save money before you start the work? Please give 3 tips

With pet sitting and dog walking there is not really much that the customer can do to save money. 3 tips I would suggest for the customer  -please let me know if your pet has a new collar, is on new food or anything else has changed 2 weeks prior to my visiting.. This will help me ensure your pet stays healthy and is not having a reaction to a new collar or food.  -please email me or sms when you are back home so I know you are back to feed your pet.  -if you need to extend my visits for additional days please try and give me at least 24 hours notice.

Are there any special offers you would like to offer to Oneflare customers?

I have reduced my prices for customers in the local area and where I can I have dropped my prices by a few dollars per visit. However this depends on your distance from me and the price of petrol etc

What makes your pricing competitive?

Accepted Answer

My prices start from $20 per visit for people in the local area and I add on a little more to the price the further I travel.  I do not charge for additional pets and do not charge for cleaning litter boxes, checking mail, putting out the bins , etc ..... this results in my customers being happy with my service and they come back to me.

How do you normally charge for your service?

I ask for payment up front before the customer goes away  and accept payment by direct debit, cash or cheque.  I am currently working on adding a paypal option to my website.

Is there a particular aspect of your trade or industry that you specialise in?

Accepted Answer

pet sitting, dog walking, overnight stays with dogs and cats and day care if required.  I only visit customers homes as my place of business is not setup for pet minding here and I would need council approval.  I specialize in giving the proper care to pets that thier owners expect and email pictures to the owners as required.

What experience, skills, qualifications or training do you have to make you the right person for the job?

I have owned pets all my life and looked after the family pets when they have gone away.  I have looked after cats, dogs, marine/freshwater/tropical fish, birds, rabbits  I am now experienced with giving pets insulin injections so I am able to care for pets that need insulin every day.
