Yes we are insured and have always guaranteed our work. We can not claim to be good at what we do without a guarantee, which provides all our clients with confidance that their project is in good hands.

How did you decide to get into your line of work?

It's along story but being naturally creative and having worked within the building industry for a few years and being a fourth generation member of my family real estate firm  I soon found myself being asked to help people with their designs until one day when a colleague suggested that I study Architectural Technology. Since then I have never looked back.

Do you have a favourite customer story you would like to share?

I have numerous customer stories but those that involve client contact after our work is complete stand out for me. Where we are asked to join them in their new home or being offered use of the clients overseas holiday home as a thank you gesture, which happens more often than I ever immagined it would. It's these things that are both humbling and rewarding at the same time. To those clients I say "Thankyou very much". I will always remember one client for whom we designed a second storey addition and they had friends come to stay when finished  but their friends drive past several times trying to find the old home because the didn't recognise the new home. Another client said that soon after they moved in that one of their friends remarked "It's like being on holiday and living in a resort" This demonstrates what can be achieved with the right design and details. It's often the little things that make the biggest difference and turn a house into a home and we can do the same for you.

What do you like most about your job?

I find that meeting different people and being able to help them obtain a particular dream or outcome is very rewarding in it's self. Job satisfaction doesn't come at the end of the documentation or payment of the fee. It comes when the job is complete and the client asks you to spend some time with them in their new home or addition. Hearing that the project has sold out faster than expected and the client wants to do some more. It's all about helping to create a successful project. Happy and satisfied clients!

What questions should a customer ask to hire the right service professional?

Always ask and check if they are qualified and licensed. Without licensing you have no consumer protection and the few dollars you save could cost you thousands and heartache. Then ask how will this process be carried out so you know what to expect and can better understand the extent of and the scope of works or the extent of the designers involvement. The designer has, most likely, done this type of work before and can guide you through it. Also consider the importance of the designer when being responsible for the success of your next project. Lines on paper have meaning and can make or break a project if done correctly. Can your designer provide numerous client referrences, particularly with similar projects to yours. It may also sound odd, but ask who does the designer work for. You want them to work for you and not someone else such as the builder.

What questions do customers commonly ask and how would you answer them?

The most common question is "How much is it going to cost" Once our clients understand what it is we do and that they have complete flexibility with the scope of involvement, they better understand that the process is not simply a dollars for ink on paper exercise and they appreciate that we offer.

It's very simple. We have been in bussiness for over 25 years now with interstate and overseas based clients all of whom trust us. You don't last this long if your not good at what you do, competitive and offer good value for money, provide service beyond expectation and deliver a quality product on time.

Our varied client base stretches locally through interstate and overseas where our clients are confidant that we are working for them in their best interest.

What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?

A written quote is best prepared once the initial client meeting has been concluded with both parties understanding the brief and scope of works. In other words what it is you would like to achieve and how involved do you wish your designer to be. The client should also know what it is the designer does and be guided by them as to how best they think your project can come to reality.

How can a customer save money before you start the work? Please give 3 tips

Depending on the clients requirements you can save money by developing a clear picture in your mind of what it is you wish to achieve with the desired project. Another good idea is to help crystalize your brief by preparing an "Ideas Scrap Book" full of thoughts, photos and ideas of what you would like to see included in your next project. Don't be tempted to save money on the design and documentation phase because a well designed and documented project can actually save you money in the construction phase. I often save our clients the equivalent of several times our fee. That's better than free plans.

We find that our clients are not looking for the lowest price but rather the best value. We are considered to offer very good value and provide a complete design and documentation service that is very competitive.

How do you normally charge for your service?

Accepted Answer

Our fee structure is quite simple and is usually developed once we have established the scope of works. A written fixed fee is then prepared that reflects our discussions with the client. Our fee is less than the average for the same level of work and expertise and we are therefore considered to be value for money.

Is there a particular aspect of your trade or industry that you specialise in?

co-design has worked primarily in the residential field with success in all areas including renovations new homes multi unit developments and small resort planning and design. As a result our homes often have a relaxed yet stylish finish that reflect our clients needs and desires while working with the environment to provide a subtle yet positive passive solar design which inturn saves our client money. We have been performing environmentally responsible design for 30 years now and have proven that our designs are more comfortable to live in and cheaper to run.

Awarded "Best Overall Student" while in college shows our commitment and quality of work from the begining of a successful 25 year career. Numerous projects have won awards judged by industry professionals throughout our career, so you can be assured of obtaining the result you desire. We also offer our client various service not always offered by others, such as Town Planning, Landscape Design, Interior Design, Colour and material selection and contract administration. These extra services allow a project to be fully coordinated and it will "Feel Right". That's very important!
