How did you decide to get into your line of work?

Web design was a natural progression for me as I have always enjoyed programming from a young age. I began on our Commodore 16 in the 80's, keeping the computer on for a week at a time, writting code for hours that would do the most basic graphics effect then once the computer is off it's gone!  Over the years I learned new languages on new platforms and began creating websites for friends and colleagues in the late 90's and early 00's.    I then studied Multimedia and Design at Sterling college to further my interest in the industry, I have been freelancing on and off over the years ever since.

What do you like most about your job?

The best aspect of my job is creating solutions for my clients.  I enjoy providing a helpful service that will help them find more customers.

Why should a customer hire you over another service provider?

I take great pride in my work, I'll work until the client is satisfied.  I will go above and beyond to keep the client and make sure I have provided the best service I possibly can.

What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?

It is handy to be given all the images and copy for the site up front. If that's not possible, then having a clear scope for the site is a great help.

How can a customer save money before you start the work? Please give 3 tips

Accepted Answer

Keep revisions to a minimum, try to give me all the copy, images etc before work is finalized. Of course, I can change anything at anytime, but to speed the process along it's better to be organized from the start.

What makes your pricing competitive?

Accepted Answer

I work from home, so my overheads are low. My partner takes care of the book keeping and administration so we save money that way and keeps the cost down even more.

How do you normally charge for your service?

I try to keep the website creation at a flat price. However, my design and development services range from $50 - $75 per hour, depending on the type and complexity of the work.

Is there a particular aspect of your trade or industry that you specialise in?

I specialise in building small busines websites. This may be landing page, brochure webiste or a full fledged e-commerce site with a merchant gateway. Whatever you need, I can help bring more customers, bookings or sales.

What experience, skills, qualifications or training do you have to make you the right person for the job?

My formal training includes: 2002 Sterling College, "Multimedia and Design" which was a 1 year course that focused on the foundations of the web and included a graphic design element.  I have completed several self-paced online courses: Programming Python CSS, HTML and Javascript  In my years of experience, I have had to rely on myself to solve problems that need an instant resolution for my clients. I have had to manage my own servers, email systems and all the backend complexities of system administration. I have learned a great deal and feel these skills benifit myself and the client.
