How did you decide to get into your line of work?

I dabbled in working for myself here and there in my early twenties, but it wasn't until I fell pregnant with my now almost 11 year old did I decide I wanted to make a living from home while still being able to be a parent. I have never stopped designing from that point.

What do you like most about your job?

I love creating something from nothing. I love handing over the project once it has been completed knowing I have over delivered on the brief and my client is happy. I receive a lot of "word of mouth" business which is the way I measure the success of my work.

How do you come up with a design? Once I have received a brief from the client and any relevant examples, I start to map out or brainstorm some concepts. From here I then look at my colour swatches and potential fonts and begin putting together some ideas.

I believe I am a straight-shooter. I don't sugar coat things and openly communicate that. I believe being transparent allows for a good working relationship between myself and my clients.

When it comes to working on a project, I believe a designer needs to understand the world of the client and by doing this, include the client as much as possible on the journey. I feel that some designers can be 'all ego' and by being this way, missing the brief altogether.

* Be as detailed as you can in the brief * Provide all copy (words) in the document (if applicable) * You may like to provide examples of what it is you are looking for so that I can understand a little more about the "vibe" you are after

I like to listen to my clients wants and needs first before quoting on a job. I like to be as fair as I can as this can result in repeat business or referrals.

Either per job or per hour, depending on the project. This is something I like to discuss with the client as it can vary per situation.

I tend to do a lot of work for start up businesses. So logo design, business card design, business stationery, web page design etc. I also get a lot of work in re-designing or refreshing the look of a current brand.
