How did you decide to get into your line of work?

From school I love design. It was only natural to follow that course of career. When I had a family I decided it was time to do it for myself and it's the best decision I've ever made!

I love the range of projects I do. From logos to cheerleading uniform to tarot cards...  I also love the flexibility and been able to meet clients needs by working varied hours.

What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?

I need to know specific the type of job they would like done. If it's a brochure - how many pages? If it's an Ad - how big is it?  The most important thing is to find out what ideas are in their head and to get them out so I can provided something they like!

1/ Research the ideas you have to know what you do and don't like 2/ Sketches are a great way to get your ideas across 3/ Trust your designer! I will always explain why I designed things the way I have.

How do you normally charge for your service?

Based on an hourly rate, experience and client input, I work out the fixed fee per project. Any changes to that fee that may arise are discussed first! I have also put together packages for common jobs such as logos and stationary.

What experience, skills, qualifications or training do you have to make you the right person for the job?

After formal training in graphic arts, I first work in a printers, then a photographic studio. That led to the magazine industry and then I work up the courage to work for myself. With over 10 years design experience - 4 of which are from my own business, I know I can handle whatever job comes my way!
