Accepted Answer

Yes. I am fully covered for ceremonies through a celebrant association for any surprise events that may affect my performance on the day.

How did you decide to get into your line of work?

I wasn't happy with the constraints of dealing with customers when working in real estate and a friend said I should find a happier job … I saw an ad for Marriage Celebrant training in the local paper and decided to apply.

I have been told by a groom that I had "made him the happiest man alive" ... personal comments like that are really nice to hear.

I have always enjoyed meeting and talking to people face-to-face, so being a celebrant who is involved in a happy celebration is an added bonus.

What questions should a customer ask to hire the right service professional?

Always determine if the ceremony will be performed the way you would like it ... there are celebrants who believe "my way or the highway".  Even the simplest ceremony can be done to reflect your preferences.

What questions do customers commonly ask and how would you answer them?

I am sometimes asked if it is allowable to marry foreign nationals.  A registered marriage celebrant can perform a ceremony involving foreign nationals if they provide the necessary paperwork translated into English by an accredited association (an official stamp will be clearly visible).

What makes you the most reliable and trustworthy person for the job?

My clients are my first priority and I will offer help in any way that I can. I am there solely for the bride and groom and to ensure their ceremony is legal and binding. I do not take shortcuts and I prefer to do just one ceremony in a day.

Why should a customer hire you over another service provider?

My aim is to provide quality customer service - I listen to couples and how they envisage their special day. I will offer advice if it is requested then provide a ceremony as close as possible to their wishes. I will always take personal desires and their personalities into consideration - it is their special moment and I am simply there to make it happen.

What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?

It is normal for a celebrant and new clients to meet up to determine if they are suited to each other.  At this meeting, personal details and venue and ceremony details are discussed to arrive at a final quote.

How can a customer save money before you start the work? Please give 3 tips

Accepted Answer

Choosing a celebrant within 20km distance of the venue saves paying an extra fee for travelling time.  Services generally include 1) a PA system and 2) a Signing table - if these are not required then a discount can be negotiated.

For home weddings in my local area that do not require a PA system, signing table and chairs, or distance travel I may negotiate a discount.

My pricing is in the medium price range for celebrant services - customer service is my priority and my fee is often negotiable.

How do you normally charge for your service?

Accepted Answer

Payment is generally by cash. If I am accepted by a couple, a deposit of $150 is paid at the time the Notice of Intended Marriage form is signed; the fee balance is paid in the week prior to the ceremony date and usually when the Declarations are signed.

Is there a particular aspect of your trade or industry that you specialise in?

I specialise in weddings and commitment ceremonies - funerals no! I especially like to concentrate on home weddings performed day or night.

What experience, skills, qualifications or training do you have to make you the right person for the job?

I began studying in 2007 and together with the waiting period was accepted as a registered marriage celebrant in 2009. My qualifications include Certificate IV Marriage Celebrant; Small Business Management; Business Administration; and other relevant short-course studies including "Ceremonies for the Hospitalised and Elderly".
