Are you an insured business and do you guarantee your work?

Accepted Answer

Liability insurance - yes  This type of INSPECTION is not able to offer any guarantees, based on the unpredictable nature.  We must state that we accept no liability for any issues that arise after the inspection, as it is not always possible to foresee potential issues arising.

Will you require customers to share their COVID-19 vaccination status?

Accepted Answer

No - as i have no interaction with buyers at all apart from phone/sms/email. Sellers need to maintain their distance during the inspection and wear masks and present a clean and sanitary car.

What COVID-19 measures do you have in place?

Accepted Answer

I am fully vaccinated (FIVE doses), and use mask when interacting with sales people or private sellers. I use gloves, sanitiser, floor mats and seat cover. I expect that cars are presented in a clean condition, with no personal items and relatively sanitary.

How did you decide to get into your line of work?

Natural progression to be able to offer my specialist vehicle knowledge and service experience. Being passionate about cars makes it easy to stay focused on the work. Being able to MAKE A DIFFERENCE and HELP PEOPLE, whilst earning an income is a plus. For me, working for the client to ensure that they are not taken advantage of by unscrupulous sellers, or at least so that they honestly know what they are considering buying, is a satisfying feeling.

Do you have a favourite customer story you would like to share?

Asked to inspect a Volkswagen R36 Passat. Carrying out preliminary background research before attending to the actual inspection (standard process for us), it became apparent that this car had been sold via a Melbourne online car auction business several years earlier, with almost 200000km on it. I twas now being advertised 4 years later with 160000km, plus the service books had been tampered with, page removed and new 'edited entries' made. Clearly an odometer 'rollback' vehicle. Seller insisted he was not aware of this. My client still wanted to proceed, in case it was mechanically ok, and still worth buying, albeit at a discount. Unfortunately the Prepurchase Check showed the car to be in poor condition, requiring repairs amounting to greater than the value of the car - needless to say my client to not proceed. Good outcome, and quite common at the moment - especially since COVID.

What do you like most about your job?

Meeting different people and cars all the time. The ability to be as critical as possible knowing my inspection will affect a person's buying decision. In some ways almost doing a community service, by helping keep poor/dodgy vehicles out of my potential clients' hands.  I have the power to make a difference.

-should I buy it - if it checks out ok, and the buyer has done their price checking/due diligence -is it good price/value - i can only report on good/bad points noted and not a market opinion -any other suggestions of cars- i can suggest other similar vehicles

What makes you the most reliable and trustworthy person for the job?

I am a genuine and real person. My experience as a service manager and master technician around the world in premium brands is invaluable, and you get the most skilled person possible. Someone you could talk to at a BBQ or over a glass of wine, and feel comfortable and trusting.

Why should a customer hire you over another service provider?

If you want to deal with a genuine person, who really cares and checks the cars as if he was going to by them himself, then you should choose Klaus. I have done many checks on vehicles previously already 'checked' by RACV / REDBOOK, and whilst theirs came up 'clean' mine pinpointed many areas or issues. I try to be a perfectionist. I use all my senses to really 'get into' each vehicle as feel (paint edges), smell (coolant / oil vapours) and sound (squeaks/rattles/knocks), can all end up costly if missed.

- MAKE / MODEL of car -Year and KM of car - location / suburb -day / time required - private sale / dealer / car yard / auction house (excludes some businesses due to their reluctance to allow thorough inspections)

How can a customer save money before you start the work? Please give 3 tips

1 - get as much information from the seller as possible - review service history 2 - inspect the car themselves / have a look around it, especially when cold started 3 - carefully research what you are after and what your budget is. Cheapest may not be cheap in long term.

What makes your pricing competitive?

Accepted Answer

Consider the level of attention and premium vehicle experience and knowledge, the price is very fair. There are cheaper businesses out there, but they may be 'generic' inspections, but there are are also VACC / RACV/REDBOOK inspections which are a lot more expensive, and sometimes aren't better. Experience and attention to detail is what you need. I try to work in with the seller's timeframe and can do at their home or work, or even after hours if needed.

How do you normally charge for your service?

Normally between $325 - $385. Certain premium and exotic vehicles will be more, based on the fact that more time is needed to assess specialised components. Enquire for rates. In exceptional circumstances, if located far away, a travel surcharge will apply, but you would be advised at time of quoting.

Quality checks / quality control, which is why I am a great choice to 'inspect' your potential purchase. Full diagnosis checks can show up many 'stored' or hidden faults, some of which may relate to previous issues. My attention to detail on post 2000 model year vehicles is amazing.
