Are you an insured business and do you guarantee your work?

Accepted Answer

I have public liability insurance here at the daycare center and my carers are also insured while having the dogs in there care for any problem that should arise.

How did you decide to get into your line of work?

I have had and worked with and loved dogs all my life, and always wanted to open kennels originally as a child. I did my vet nursing for 16 years then went on to work in Admin/ reception for a real estate agency for 2 years. It was my adopted dog Snippy who is now sadly deceased that spurred me on to start my daycare centre, he had separation anxiety, and also my love of dogs. So I wanted to be home with him full time, so it made sense that I work with dogs and be at home full time, so he can have his mum around. He was wonderful with all the dogs and I called him the CEO of Happy Dog Day Care. He is now sadly missed, but we keep his picture on the wall for to remind us of how precious he was as is all the dogs that come into our care.

Do you have a favourite customer story you would like to share?

I had a dog that was our first one here at the center when we started, his name was Jasper a spoodle.  He started with us when he was 8 months old in 2008. His mum worked close by but lived about 13kms away. After being with us for 4 years his mum got a new job in the same suburb she lived, so she didn't need to bring Jasper to us as it was way out of her way. She took Jasper to an indoor daycare center near her place, but he hated it, so for the next 2 years she got up early and traveled here to drop Jasper off, only to have to drive back to her own suburb to work. Jasper loved being here and missed his doggie friends. That was a great testament to the way we make our dogs feel very much like our family member.

What do you like most about your job?

My job looking after your dogs is the best job in the world, I love the interaction with the dogs, the training that I do with them, watching the many little antics they get up to whether its in play or just while they are relaxing. Dogs are an amazing animal that give unconditional love and they deserve the same back.

What questions should a customer ask to hire the right service professional?

You should always ask if what qualifications the establishment has to look after your dogs. Ask if they are covered under insurance. Can we come and see your establisment before we decide to make a booking. Can we visit with the carer in their home before we decide to leave our dog with them. Ask if all the dogs have been vaccinated with the C5 vaccinations and if they check vaccination certificates. Do they have a veterinary surgeon on standby if their is a medical problem.

What questions do customers commonly ask and how would you answer them?

Q.Why are you different than boarding kennels and how much time do you spend with the dogs? A. Our service provides a home enviroment for your dog, so when you go on holidays your dog is in the comfort of a minders home treated like a member of the family and not in a kennel enviroment. The minders are with your dog and can give them the love and cuddles they would otherwise have at home. Q. Can my dog sleep indoors if that what he is use to? A. Yes all our holiday dogs live exactly as they would if they were at home, if they are used to being indoors that's what will happen, whatever the owner instructs us in regards to their dog we will to the best of our ability provide that service. Q. Why don't you supply food and bedding? A. We don't believe in changing a dogs diet as it can lead to health issues if changed dramatically. Dogs feel alot more at ease if there is not a great amount of change, so having his own bowl and food and bedding will bring some of his home to his new enviroment. Q. Why do you charge a little more than a kennel? A. Our rates are slightly higher because the minders need to be paid for their time as they are required to be at home with your dog at least 85% of the time, allowing for shopping trips etc. Your dog is not left alone in the back yard or kennel for long periods of time. You pay for the luxury of your dog living in a family enviroment inside a minders home receiving all the love and attention while you are away, making them feel more comfortable and taking their minds off leaving the family for a few days.

What makes you the most reliable and trustworthy person for the job?

I am a qualified veterinary nurse and I do have a vet on call if there should be an emergency. I have worked with dogs all my life and have participated in training workshops on dog behaviour and training. And dogs are my passion, I enjoy their company and love spending the time to make them feel at home and happy.

Why should a customer hire you over another service provider?

Accepted Answer

Because we are a small home based centre, all dogs get individual love and attention. I am able to interact with them all and do some basic training, playing and not to mention the tummy rubs, pats, cuddles and lap sit, which by the way is not only exclusive to small dogs, I do have some of the larger breeds that think they are one of the small breeds and try to get on my lap, one Shepherd does succeed but only stays for a short while. I make sure all dogs before they area booked into daycare have a good temperments, non aggressive. Their vaccination certificates are checked as they all need to be up to date with the C5 vaccination, they need to be on a flea control and heartworm program.

What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?

All dogs that come into our care be it daycare or sleepovers, need to be fully vaccinated and up to date with boosters yearly, the need to have the C5 vaccination, a certificate needs to be sighted or vet details provided so vaccination and dates can be confirmed.  All dogs over 6 months of age need to be desexed. All dogs need to be on a heartworm and flea control program.  All dogs need to be friendly with other dogs and humans, non territorial with toys or food.

Refer our services to your family and friends and if it results in a confirmed booking then you receive a 10% discount on the next service you wish to book, they applies to both daycare and sleepovers.

Are there any special offers you would like to offer to Oneflare customers?

Accepted Answer

Pensioners recieve a 10% discount on sleepovers only. Any sleepover that is over 7 days receive a 5% discount over 21 days receive a 10% discount. Any time after that is negotiable.

What makes your pricing competitive?

Our prices may seem alot to some but it is all about the quality of care we give all our dogs when they come to daycare or stay at one of our carers while their families are on holidays.  We are a home based centre so each dog is treated like a family member and is given plenty of individual attention. Plenty of cuddles and if size permits lap time. Our dogs are not left to their own devices there is some one there with them through the whole time of their stay. So you paying for the peace of mind that your dog is being taken good care of and loved while your away for the day or on holidays.

How do you normally charge for your service?

My service for daycare is per day as is sleepovers. Payments are made via Bank direct debit or cash.

Is there a particular aspect of your trade or industry that you specialise in?

I specialise in making sure each dog is individually loved and watched to make sure they all play smoothly at all times. I make sure all dogs are calm and at all times positive reinforcement is applied to all situations.

What experience, skills, qualifications or training do you have to make you the right person for the job?

I am a veterinary nurse by profession, have been in the industry for 16 years before retiring and opening my daycare center. I have a Certificate in Business ( Small Business Management), have done workshops with Australian Dog Training Academy & renown dog trainer Michael Tucker.
