How did you decide to get into your line of work?

During the marriage equality plebiscite I was heartbroken to see the debate that my gorgeous friends could not marry the person they wanted to. It was not right, fair or just. I decided right there and then I would become a celebrant so I could marry EVERYONE. Thankfully Australia came to its senses and the rest is history. If you do not support marriage equality and diversity (in all it's meanings) then I am NOT the celebrant for you.

Do you have a favourite customer story you would like to share?

When a bride's mother was terminally ill and looking like she wasn't going to live to see the original wedding date I moved heaven and earth and applied to the statutory authority to get a shortening of time so we could bring the wedding forward.

What do you like most about your job?

You are getting people on their best day and helping them turn an important corner and milestone in their lives. I LOVE being part of that and making it the best day it possibly can be.

What questions should a customer ask to hire the right service professional?

Your celebrant choice is important. You need to really click. They aren't just saying a few words and signing documents. They are breathing life in your marriage. It has to be ther right fit and it can't be just about MONEY/COST.  Ask your celebrant about how they structure their ceremony and write the ceremony.  If they are just trotting out the same cerermony time after time and it's not specific to you then keep shopping. There's plenty of great celebrants out there.

You: "Can you make my partner cry in the ceremony?" Me: "Yep, challenge accepted". You: "What can we include in our ceremony?" Me: "Anything you darn well want." You: "We don't want any religious stuff or traditional elements?" ME: "Great, I love the sound of that" You: "Can we have traditional elements? Me: "Of course, whatever you want, within the law?" You: "Can our dog/cat/horse/rabbit be part of the ceremony?" Me: "Ab-so-bloody-lutley!"

What makes you the most reliable and trustworthy person for the job?

I love what I do and I take it seriously. I am a professional. My reviews (on Google and Facebook) attest to that. I undertake professional development, I am an active member of the celebrant community and I just bloody love what I do.

Why should a customer hire you over another service provider?

A few important things about me; • I’m all about inclusivity and diversity - if you don't support marriage equality then I am NOT the celebrant for you. • Love is love is love – in all shapes and forms - see above. • Laughter is the short distance between people - I adore humour in ceremonies. Laughter takes away the nerves and really brings everyone ‘into the room’. The trick is to find balance with ‘the feels’ and laughter.  Your ceremony will completely set the tone for what’s next, whatever that is. It builds the energy, keeps the love flowing and celebrations go to the next level. That’s why it’s important get to know you both. To know how YOU want to feel on your wedding day and how you want your GUESTS to feel is key.

What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?

Date. Time. Location. Number of people at the event. Your budget.

How can a customer save money before you start the work? Please give 3 tips

Accepted Answer

Strip back your wedding to the very basics - just you two getting married in front of (at least) two witnesses. You don't need matching napkins and chairs covers. You don't need a hugely expensive flower arch. Ask yourselves what is the real outcome you want? To be married right? Then focus on that and not all the hoopla. Move to a less busy day rather than Saturday at 3pm. I have a less expensive package for weddings on Mondays to Fridays.

My pricing (on my website if youre interested) is actually below the average celebrant in Sydney. I am comfortable and confident with these prices, that's why I don't haggle.

How do you normally charge for your service?

There are different packages for small elopements and then for the bespoke ceremony. There is also different prices for Monday to Friday vs Saturdays and Sundays.  I also have packages for vow renewals and commitment ceremonies and baby or pet naming ceremonies. Jump on my website. You will love it.

What experience, skills, qualifications or training do you have to make you the right person for the job?

Many MANY weddings performed of all shapes and sizes.  I am especially fond of same sex celebrations and a HUGE supporter for marriage equality.  I have my Cert 4 in Marriage Celebrancy and am an authorised Commonwealth Marriage Celebrant in line with the Marriage Act of 1961
