How did you decide to get into your line of work?

I've always been active and loved sports so becoming an exercise physiologist was a natural choice. With regard to massage, when I went for my first sports massage many years ago, not only did it cure my chronic back pain, but as an athlete, had me doing things I didn't think were possible. That day my other path was set, I didn't choose it, it chose me. I was about 20 years of age.

Do you have a favourite customer story you would like to share?

I have been fortunate enough to work with some world champion athletes during my career and one of whom happened to be my female sports idol at the time so that made the job even more enjoyable! I also helped an athlete to his 50th professional title and at the same time become the oldest player to ever win an International Squash Tournament. We had worked together for several years so this was very rewarding. What probably tops both of those stories though was having a client tell me that I saved his life. When I can genuinely help someone on that kind of level it makes it all worth it and it is why I love and do what I do.

What do you like most about your job?

Helping people overcome injury and adversity is very rewarding for me, as well as helping people to achieve optimum health and performance goals. Most of all it's the smile on my client's faces!

How do you normally charge for your service?

Fees are usually charged on the day of service and payment can be made by either cash or credit card (Clinic) or cash or bank transfer (Home visits).

Is there a particular aspect of your trade or industry that you specialise in?

I perform a wide array of soft tissue techniques and specialise in low back & hip pain, neck stiffness, headaches, shoulder injuries, sleeping disorders and musculoskeletal dysfunction. I also perform techniques designed specifically for deep relaxation.

What experience, skills, qualifications or training do you have to make you the right person for the job?

I hold a Bachelor of Science Degree (Human Movement) from the University of Western Australia as well as Diplomas in Remedial Massage, Swedish Massage and Certificates in Sports Massage, Orthopaedic Massage, Acupuncture and Aromatherapy.  Over the last 20 years I have successfully managed gymnasiums, massage schools and wellness centres.
