How did you decide to get into your line of work?

I worked as a finance manager many years in small business - hospitality industry, retail, events, shopping center, executive apartment rentals. I love working in small business and helping a business flourish. We launched our bookkeeping service in 2010 which started simply by word of mouth and referrals and we have enjoyed focusing our skills on the bookkeeping and accounting for our clients.

Do you have a favourite customer story you would like to share?

It is common for most businesses to see bookkeeping as an extra overhead - but having the right person do your bookkeeping can save your business money. Often we find errors that we correct from both previous bookkeepers and supplier invoices not totaled correctly, which we have had instances where we returned an additional $1,800 in gst errors to our clients.  In addition to these simple things, we have also assisted with business finance... A client of ours was waiting and waiting on his accountant to produce draft P&L's so that he could apply for leasing facilities on large machinery. We were contacted and within 2 weeks had finalised the current draft p&l's, the client got his leasing agreements that week and started saving $40,000k per month as he no longer had the expense of hiring machinery. getting the right level of service is important for a professional and supportive working relationship. In addition to experience and accreditation ask who will be your point of contact. Ask are they an employee and what happens if that employees leaves their firm...will a new person need to be trained to deal with your accounts? Ask about their time billing methods also - you will find larger firms / employees are required to calculate and charge our every 7 minutes.

I pride myself on my work and with the responsibility of dealing with confidential financials, i also pride myself on my ethics and honesty. I encourage transparency, authorization processes and double checking on sensitive tasks if needed.

Our rates are a set hourly rate and the same for all clients. The amount of time you currently think the job would take can be discussed - in most cases, we find a more efficient process and we can implement procedures to ensure our work is completed in the quickest time possible. We have many clients that can testify how our simple tools have helped their business we organised and simplified!

Have all your source documents ready! We will need bank statements, credit card statements, loan statements, creditor invoices, debtor invoices...all the paperwork you have...we need!

What makes your pricing competitive?

Accepted Answer

We offer a discounted rate for offsite services and also a 10% discount off the first month of service. Our pricing is very competitive for the quality of the service, experience and knowledge we provide. We often save clients $$$ correcting errors that we find! (we found over $1,800 as a gst refund for one of our client correcting errors from previous bookkeepers work)

How do you normally charge for your service?

We charge an hourly rate of $55 p/h for offsite or $66 p/h for onsite work. Every business has different requirements from their bookkeeper - we are always able to arrange a set price once we have an idea of the workload required. All new clients receive a 10% discount on the first month!

Over the years we have gained experience across many industries from retail, hospitality, events, commercial shopping centres, tradesmen, not-for profit radio stations to the health industry and interior design and holiday real estate.

Matheson & Osman bookkeeping and business services are registered by the government to be BAS Agents. With this comes direct access to the ATO BAS Agents portal where we can communicate directly with the ATO on your behalf and electronically lodge your reporting requirements and access your ATO account and history. Directors Ellen & Sean Osman are both qualified accountants with over 10 years experience in small to medium business across a wide range of industries.
