What questions should a customer ask to hire the right service professional?

First and foremost with a designs - always look at their previous work first. No matter how dreamy their 'copy' sounds, if they can't show you portfolio pieces you're about to get ripped off. I'd also find out about their background and what experience they've had in both designing/building websites but also running projects and managing clients - that's where things can fall apart. Luckily I've been a part of website design for a long time and already have a smooth process downpat - so lets chat!

Q. How soon will I see my website. A. You'll have your homepage within a week, other pages the next, and your website built and ready within 6-8 weeks.  Q. How do you invoice and how can I pay? A. I run Xero with my bookkeeper so we invoice via Xero. We require 50% upfront and 50% on completion via bank transfer.

I think trust comes from proof. Have a look at my portfolio for proof of my ability, know that most of my clients have been with me for many years now and know that if you work with me we'll be friends. I like having solid and open relationships with my clients, it helps understand what's needed.

I'm not an expensive agency. I'm a freelancer that cares about my clients, have a high-quality standard and am transparent in everything I do.

1. The 'purpose' of the website - is it convert new leads, or educate existing ones? Or both ;) 2. Page structure 3. Any extra features such as social sharing, adding a blog, galleries, contact forms etc 4. If you have an existing website & branding 5. Deadline requirements

1. Decide on the pages you'll have in your website and what's on them. 2. Outline any extra features you'd like, such as social media sharing, contact forms, gallerys etc. 3. Find 5 visual examples of websites you love, and want yours to look like.

What makes your pricing competitive?

I've been in this industry long enough to see people get ripped off at both ends of the scale. Less than $1500 for a website and you'll receive a poorly designed and coded bombshell, and $5k + I believe is too much for a small business website. I sit right in the middle, amazing and affordable.

How do you normally charge for your service?

I prefer a fixed cost pricing model, 50% up front, 50% on completion. I find this is more transparent for everyone as it includes exactly what I will (and won't) do for the price stated. Is there a particular aspect of your trade or industry that you specialise in?

I specialise in websites for small business. I've personally run my own businesses in the past few years (including consulting businesses) and know the ins and outs of what websites actually convert visitors to leads, which is rather important for the professional services industry!

What experience, skills, qualifications or training do you have to make you the right person for the job?

I've been designing and building websites for the past 5+ years and also have an Honours degree in Design. I've worked for a number of high-profile tech companies including JobAdder, Tiny Mammoth Design and WPMU DEV (current). I've freelanced since 2010 and am 100% ready to jump into your project!
