How did you decide to get into your line of work?

Long storey actually, however in short I have always loved design and space/s. I always found myself critiquing and complimenting spaces and designs no matter where I am....starting in my early teens perhaps even earlier, I personally found Interior Design was something I was just naturally great at with a real eye for detail. I found my studies/qualifications very easy as I just had/have a real flare and passion for what I do.

Q: Can I afford a Interior Designer A: If you are on the Carla Rausch Designs Website, there is a good chance you need an Interior Designer whether that be because you are a very busy individual/family and or perhaps Interior design is just not your forte and you would like assistance and help in this area. Well you have certainly come to the right place, however, often thought about and asked is "Can I/we afford an Interior Designer"?  Clients have often thought an interior designer would be too expensive and that they may end up spending more on there projects than they had already planned! We certainly hear the exact opposite once we finish up.  We are told that we have saved them so much time and money and made the process so much easier and in some ways a "Fun" experience and they would never go without a designer again.  We have a wealth of knowledge and experience in this field with great contacts, buying power and know where to spend and where to save.  Our ability to buy at wholesale and pass those savings along to our clients means that some individuals save even more money than they spend on our design services! Also worth mentioning that a project mistake can be a very costly mistake, we help ensure that these are avoided.   We can offer part services such as working with clients on a very limited advisory role, a mentor of sorts, and you do much of the legwork yourself. We advise you where to go, give feedback, and help you avoid mistakes. For other clients we offer a full design service from concept through to installation. Whatever your budget, we can accommodate you.   Q: What does it cost for an initial consultation:  A: 1 Hour $150.00 Or 2 Hours $250.00 depending on the size of your project. A: At Carla Rausch Designs we are experienced and qualified Interior Designers and we offer both Interior Design and Interior Decorating Services.  So what is the difference between a Interior Designer and an Interior Decorator?  Interior design is the art and science of understanding people's behaviour to create functional spaces within a building. Decoration is the furnishing or adorning of a space with fashionable or beautiful things. In short, interior designers may decorate, but decorators do not design.

What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?

How we work: INITIAL CONSULTATION The initial consultation is carried out on site with one of our qualified and experienced interior designers who will assess the property, review and consult on your house plans and discuss your project requirements in detail with you. By talking with you we will establish your individual requirements for the space and or spaces, the function of the room/s, layout options, aesthetics.    CLIENT AGREEMENT Following the initial consultation, we will present you with a client proposal agreement which once agreed upon commissions us to proceed with the design. The agreement outlines the scope of works for the design and the associated fees which is based upon the estimated amount of working hours of the project. Carla Rausch Designs works on both small and large scale projects and our fees are calculated based on the scope of work. Scopes of works can be broken down into stages and or spaces i.e Living, Bathrooms, Kitchen, Bedrooms.   CONCEPT During the Concept stage of the design process we will survey the property, establish the design brief and produce concept drawings for your project. The proposed design encapsulates your wants and individual requirements all ascertained in the brief. We will explain our thinking behind the design and present our concepts and recommendations.   DESIGN DEVELOPMENT During the Design Development Stage the design is further developed and any necessary modifications are made to the design. Prior to providing the final quotation, all drawings and specifications including finishes and fixtures are finalised.     TRADE QUOTATIONS A site meeting with relevant trades will be required to establish costs associated with the project. The final decision and approval of trades and quotations is finalised and approved by the client. The Client liaises with the trades and pays the Trades directly. Carla Rausch Designs can assist you the client during this process and this is set out on an hourly rate as per your requirements and project needs.   CONSTRUCTION During the Construction process, while you the Client are in full control and authority with the selected Trades, Carla Rausch Designs can assist you the client where required and needed during this process this is charged on an hourly rate as per the client’s requirements and project needs.     Please see our “Interior Design and Purchasing Services Agreement” for full terms and conditions.  – Carla Rausch Designs.  FURNISHING & DECORATING If commissioned we are qualified to provide design services as well as source and supply everything for any room within the home including floor and wall coverings, lighting, soft furnishings and other materials including furniture, ornaments, curtains, rugs, artwork, carpets, and other accessories for interior decoration.  We have access to a large and exquisite range of trade only fabric houses and furniture suppliers. As every project is unique we will tailor our services to suit your individual requirements. We also offer Property Styling and Staging services with Furniture Hire available, these are Package based services depending on the Client’s needs and requirements and the property size. Furnishing & Decoration Services include –   Furniture selection, supply and installation Soft furnishings including fabrics and window treatments Custom furniture design Space and furniture planning Flooring solutions, including tiling, carpets and rugs Interior and exterior colour schemes Placement of design accents and accessories Digital Mood board / Storey boards (Overall concept, look, feel and appeal) Property Styling and Staging Furniture and Accessories Hire   INITIAL CONSULTATION FEE for Interior decorating services Our initial consultation fee for an on-site meeting where one of our qualified interior decorators will discuss the scope of work and explore the project capabilities is $250 (2 hours) Or $150.00 (1 Hour) depending on your project size, needs and requirements.   FURNISHING & DECORATING SERVICE FEES Our hourly rate fee for furnishing and decorating services includes the sourcing, selection, purchase of furniture, light fittings, soft furnishings, window treatments and the like is charged at a flat rate of $100.00 per hour. Our services for the selection and specification of other hard finishes outside of the fixed room design fees including paint schedules and flooring options for any new build and/or renovation is $100.00 per hour. Once we have received your brief we are happy to provide an estimation of hours to complete your project if required. Where a time charge is applicable or hours have been estimated, we execute a Block of Hours Service Agreement. The number of hours in each block is determined by your expected needs and requirements. A block of hours is pre-purchased and a schedule of hours of work performed to date will be emailed to regularly and based depending on the size of the project. All orders for interior furnishings and products purchased through us and our trade only suppliers will be priced separately. Once your selections have been finalised you will receive a comprehensive quotation. Full payment is required to activate orders for furniture / fixtures / appliances and other special order items.
