Are you an insured business and do you guarantee your work?

I carry $20,000,000 public liability cover, which is required for weddings in some locations and also $2,000,000 professional indemnity. I guarantee that I will spare no effort to create a wonderful ceremony for my couples.

How did you decide to get into your line of work?

I had thought for some time what a lovely thing it would be to share in so many couple s special days. Then, my best friend got engaged and said he would like me to perform his ceremony so I did the first course I could get onto and his was the first wedding  performed. It was so wonderful!

Do you have a favourite customer story you would like to share?

I performed a surprise wedding for a lovely young couple. All their family and friends thought they were attending their engagement party, and it was a Bollywood theme. I was introduced as "Phil the Magician" and told them I was going to perform an amazing trick. I told them the couple would act as my assistants and they had gone off to get changed. When I asked them if they would like to see the bride's outfit and she walked out in a  long white dress with her dad, the whole audience screamed with excitement! I must confess to shedding a couple of tears - it was beautiful!

What do you like most about your job?

Every wedding I perform is different. Every couple is  different and they are experiencing the excitement of getting married and I am so fortunate to be able to share in that excitement!

What questions should a customer ask to hire the right service professional?

Accepted Answer

I suggest you speak to a couple of celebrants and tell them your ideas and ask them if they are happy to go along with them.  While price is always an issue it should not be the most important part of your decision-making. The important thing is to be comfortable with your celebrant.

What questions do customers commonly ask and how would you answer them?

Availability and price are naturally the first questions.  I am sometimes asked if I can visit them at their home and that is never a problem.  I am sometimes asked if I would be comfortable with performing a theme ceremony and I have never said "No" to that!

What makes you the most reliable and trustworthy person for the job?

In over 500 weddings I have never been late for a ceremony, my sound system has always performed perfectly, and any unexpected changes at the last minute have been included flawlessly into the ceremony.

For your wedding you need a celebrant who listens to your ideas and helps you to create the wedding that you have always dreamed about. After 500 weddings and such a variety of different ceremonies I have made a lot of couples very happy!

What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?

If you can advise me of the time, date and location of your ceremony and if you would like to have a face-to-face rehearsal or if you are happy to talk through it over the phone, these will all affect my quote.

Get family and friends involved. It is amazing how talented some people are when it comes to creating invitations, bonbonieres, cakes and even decorations for the wedding and the reception.

What makes your pricing competitive?

The ceremonies that I create are unique - people often comment on the stories I write and even a year later when I speak to the couple on their first anniversary, they often say that people still remember their personal story. I am also happy to meet people at their homes for our first meeting and the rehearsal.

How do you normally charge for your service?

I ask for a deposit of $220 to confirm the time and date of the ceremony - this covers the initial meeting and paperwork and loan of my wedding manual. The balance is payable two weeks before the ceremony.

I like to create personalised wedding ceremonies that people recall with joy for the rest of their lives. I love writing life stories about my couples that friends and family take away with them after the ceremony feeling they have experienced something extra special.

I was trained by a government authorised training company in 2005 and have brought my own empathy and understanding to the job of marriage celebrant to offer a personalised service that helps me and my couples enjoy a wonderful day whenever I perform a  wedding ceremony!
