Are you an insured business and do you guarantee your work?

I have full professional indemnity insurance to cover any losses or damages that a client might suffer as a result of negligent or poor advice being provided by this Firm.

How did you decide to get into your line of work?

Accepted Answer

I had always loved legal rules and regulations.  I was pushed out to work after Grade 10 as girls were in the "old days" and so I had to go back to do Grade 12 at night school.  After doing well in English, history, economics and other non-science type subjects, I decided that I needed to head in the direction of law or social work.  After finishing Grade 12, I then went on to the University of Queensland and in my first year, I took subjects that allowed me to follow either discipline.  I loved my first year legal subjects and the deal was sealed for me!

Do you have a favourite customer story you would like to share?

Because I am bound by ethical standards and the facts and circumstances of my client's cases are totally confidential, I am unable to disclose any particular facts and problems that my clients may have had.  It is easy to join the dots often and I do not want to take that chance.  I have had a lot of success stories which I would love to share but I am unable to do so.

What do you like most about your job?

I like helping to solve problems for clients and hopefully with a good outcome for all involved.  Sometimes that is not possible but I enjoy the effort involved in trying to help.  I also like meeting new clients and hearing their stories and challenges.

What questions should a customer ask to hire the right service professional?

Accepted Answer

One essential element is experience with the type of work that is needed by the client.  The hourly rate can be deceiving and someone may be $10.00 or $20.00 per hour less (or even more) but they may not have the experience and end up costing more in the long run.  Talk to the professional about jobs they may have done before in the particular field.

How much do you charge and I always tell them that the range per hour is between $375.00 to $395.00 per hour plus outlays plus GST.  I also tell them that this rate is still at least $100.00 less per hour than I would be charged out at in Brisbane for someone with my experience and qualifications.

What makes you the most reliable and trustworthy person for the job?

I earnt my "stripes" as a junior solicitor at one of the top Firms in Australia and it was drummed into us that we should act ethically and properly for all clients.  This is something I have taken forward and I will not bend the rules for any person including a client.

Why should a customer hire you over another service provider?

Accepted Answer

I have been a solicitor of 30 years and worked in a number of different areas of law.  I am alive to problem areas and won't suggest you do anything that would compromise your position.  Only I do your work.  Your work is not delegated to a junior practitioner who is learning on the job.  I am able to maintain quality and the output of any work from this office.

What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?

I need full details of what type of agreement you require, the reasons for the agreement, the parties involved, their full contact details, corporate name and ACN plus registered office addresses.  This very much depends on the nature of the legal work necessary.

How can a customer save money before you start the work? Please give 3 tips

Accepted Answer

If a person is able to succinctly brief me on the facts relating to the dispute or matter in question, provide all company or business name searches plus be available for clear instructions when required, this does save on a considerable amount of time necessary to be able to offer a solution.  Another way to save money is to not require a written advice and to avoid having meetings where often it is more likely to run over on time.

Are there any special offers you would like to offer to Oneflare customers?

Depending on the nature of the work, I am happy to offer a 5% reduction off my usual hourly rate for Oneflare customers.  This is exclusive of outlays and GST.  This represent more than a reduction of $100 per hour off the hourly rate that people are generally charged in Brisbane for a solicitor with less experience than myself.

What makes your pricing competitive?

My hourly rate is competitive because I am very efficient at what I do because of my qualifications and length of experience.  As you know, if you know what you are doing, you are able to reach a conclusion or find a solution much quicker than someone who has to navigate the law to decide the best way to proceed.  My fixed price conveyancing is competitive with other major players in the marketplace.

How do you normally charge for your service?

I charge an hourly rate for my general commercial/intellectual property and franchising law work and the rate is between $375.00 and $395.00 per hour plus outlays plus GST.  I have a fixed rate for the conveyancing work.  I charge only $50.00 more per conveyance than "Conveyancing Works" but the difference is that you have a solicitor doing your work and not a para-legal junior.

Is there a particular aspect of your trade or industry that you specialise in?

I specialise in intellectual property law including trade mark law, copyright law and confidential information principles.  I also have a considerable amount of experience in Franchising.   I have established Rigby-King Conveyancing which will undertake all conveyancing matters.

What experience, skills, qualifications or training do you have to make you the right person for the job?

I have worked in senior positions at some of the major first tier firms in Brisbane.  I am a qualified solicitor but I also have a Master of Laws degree having undertaken post-graduate studies to increase my knowledge.  I am also a Registered Trade Marks Attorney of Australia specialising in trade mark and other intellectual property law.
