Are you an insured business and do you guarantee your work?

Yes I am insured. The couple and I both sign a client service agreement which sets out undertakings of all parties.

How did you decide to get into your line of work?

I worked at NSW Registry of Births, Deaths & Marriages for 16 years where I conducted many weddings. I decided to continue this very special service after I retired.

Do you have a favourite customer story you would like to share?

At a second marriage for both parties, the bride and I surprised the groom with a sand ceremony to represent the blending of the families, including his two other children who could not attend due to health issues. We also included the couples' unborn baby. He cried. It was wonderful.

What do you like most about your job?

The whole journey of meeting a couple, talking to them, meeting their families and then together, creating a special and unique ceremony just for them. I love to see the look on each of the couple's faces when they see each other for the first time on their wedding day. Just magical.

What questions should a customer ask to hire the right service professional?

I encourage couples to ask questions in a face to face meeting so they can gauge whether the celebrant's personality suits them. I think this is the most important aspect of choosing a celebrant.

What questions do customers commonly ask and how would you answer them?

"How much do you charge?" is the most common question. I provide a Statement of Fees to couples and explain the work involved in preparing a unique service for them. I also provide an information sheet on legal requirements involved when getting married in Australia.

Why should a customer hire you over another service provider?

I listen to you. I get to know you. I create unique and special ceremonies for unique and special people. I love what I do - I get to participate in one of the most important days of a couple's lives. I am very lucky to be in this industry.

What are the typical things that you need to know before you can provide a quote to a customer?

The wedding date; the venue; bridal party number; equipment required (PA, table, chair etc), rehearsal requirements; any extra transport requirements (eg water taxi,).

What makes your pricing competitive?

Accepted Answer

I try and keep my prices as low as possible. Couples know exactly what they are getting for their money as I provide a document detailing costs and services. I do not charge per kilometer mileage. If the venue is more than an hour from where I live, I may charge an extra travel fee of $50.

How do you normally charge for your service?

I provide a quote based on information provided to me by couples, eg type of service, whether a rehearsal is required, rituals, any other expenses.

Is there a particular aspect of your trade or industry that you specialise in?

I mainly conduct marriages and funerals, but have conducted baby naming days. I am happy to take enquiries about all aspects of the celebrant business.

What experience, skills, qualifications or training do you have to make you the right person for the job?

Accepted Answer

I have been a qualified celebrant for many years and continue to participate in both formal and informal training as is required for my registration. However the best training for me is when I meet my couple and begin the journey of creating the best ceremony I can.
