How did you decide to get into your line of work?

I really liked using my tax skills to help people out. I have a background in public policy, financial analysis and industry advocacy so I had a feel for what a service industry looked like. Plus I grew up in a small family business so helping business came naturally to me.

My favourite stories involve people seeking help with five or more years of outstanding tax returns to lodge. They walk away feeling comfortable that their affairs are in good hands.

The aspect of accounting I like the most is helping people. Many new clients come to me worried about their tax affairs. Seeing people come away from a meeting with me relaxed and happy with their tax affairs is one of the greatest feelings.

How much do your charge, can you give me a fixed price? When we work out exactly what your tax needs are we fix prices and do not change them. What is a good tax agent is? One that has at least 5 years experience, good qualification and is a member of a professional accounting body.

Have all your receipts and expenses summarised in an excel spreadsheet.  For businesses use cloud accounting software. Have all your documents ready - it doesn't save you money it just save you time.
